It came down easy, with the correct equipment. Its in great condition. Has a 47 stamped on the makers plate. The owner of the tire shop knows for a fact it was hung in 1951. 8 ft long by 5 foot tall. No damage and looks good. I think I will open it and see whats inside.
NEW better, cleaner pics..

Hows the wiring? I am assuming all the ballasts will need to be replaced and the rest gone through, but it looks great inside - no "residents" in there to evict!

I was suprised too. Never opened since it was hung. Lots of work getting it open. All that was in there was flaking paint. I took the shop vac and sucked it all out. NO bees, or anything in there. The wiring is all incased in tubing, looks pretty good. I am not sure if I should plug it in ??????

Def a Well made sign! Plug it in and listen (make sure radio is off) in a quiet room where the sign is. Worst that could happen is it'll trip your circuit breaker. If bulbs try to light up that's a good sign. laugh Give the bulbs a 1/4 turn in both directions. Maybe remove them as well and check for corrosion...steel wool any muck. Poke around and see how it's wired and to how many ballasts, etc. Narrow down the problems by figuring out which bulbs, ballasts (starters?) need to be replaced. Most ballasts tell you on a label what it's supposed to be lighting. Wondering if they used HO (high Output) bulbs for this sign for colder weather locations. If 2-prongs at the end of each bulb NOT HO's, If 2 prongs surrounded by a black oblong boot...then they're HO's.
