I love to tell this story.
Around 1992 I went to PMP (one of the largest companies that rebuilt Veeder-Root computers. I was after air meter parts, but noticing a large area where a number of people were busy rebuilding V/R computers, I asked if they would show me how to remove and replace the wheels.
This woman sat down, pulled out the old wheels (they used some special tools) and showed me how to replace the wheels. She at the time placed a special tool on the side of the meter between the base and the place where the reset handle attached. She then look up at me and told me that when she cranked the meter over all the wheels would come back to 000. My anticipation rose while I waited, she cranked, I read 124, This is when I decided I would never take a V/R apart.
Only one person smart enough around here to take on a V/R that I know of is Joe Yokum.
