I have seen this many times and cannot figure it out, looking for someone to help me make sense of it.Someone lists an item with a low starting bid and a reserve, the item goes up to what should be a fair price but doesn't meet reserve. OK, then the item gets relisted with a starting bid at 5 times what the item is worth, what's the point of doing that?

Most times the item gets relisted it never goes for as much the second time as the first.
Best way to sell items... low starting bid and no reserve and let market tell you what it is worth.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I saw something I couldn't figure out on Ebay the other day. I saw an item that was discussed on this site under what is it worth. The person was given a value on it by a good reputible source. It was then listed on Ebay and did not meet reserve and was then relisted again with a buy it now for less than it brought the first time with the reserve and less than the price discussed on here. It did sell with the buy it now but it took a few days. I was very tempted to buy it but wasn't sure what was going on.

The first post sounds like something I would do. Why? testing the market and advertising the item. OR, you have ok offers and are trying to get the best you can.
SO many theories on how to use ebay.

Trouble with that is I myself and I am sure there are others that will not play the game the 2nd time it is listed. Many times you lose the serious buyers by playing that way.

I have had luck listing at the higher price sometimes even after the reserve was not met and the auction ended at a fair price. Some buyers do not waste time bidding on items with a reserve. I think it works both ways. Do I think 5x the value is the right way to sell an item...not at all. If you are looking to sell it price it at what the market brings-but you can't get it if you don't ask for it.

I hate reserves too ! I also believe that most people dont look at ebay every week. Some times running it for 2 or 3 weeks is better.
