I picked up a photo from e-bay that shows a couple of clock faced pumps with Colonial Ethyl Globes on them. I have not heard of Colonial Ethyl or Colonial Beacon products,I'm hoping that someone can give me a free history lesson.LOL Would send the photo, but not smart enough. Thanks.

Bob:
The following is from the 'Teal' globe book by Henderson and Benjamin.

"Colonial Beacon Oil Company - Boston Massachusetts

This company was formed in a late 1920's merger between Boston area based Colonial Oil Company and Beacon Oil. Colonial Beacon, an innovative marketer with stations throughout New England, sold out to Standard (NJ) in 1930. The Colonial name, as a subsidiary, survived until the end of World War II, although products were branded Esso in 1933. Colonial influenced the entire industry with the introduction of service bays at stations and the marketing of tires, batteries and automotive accessories (known as TBA in the trade) through their stations. Colonial was instrumental in the formation of the Atlas Supply Company, providing the various Standard companies that participated in the program with a TBA line."

The book also lists 5 different globes. None of them are very common.

Hope this helps.

Later . . .

Jim

T-way thanks! Knew that someone or someones would have the info on this company. Will try to post the photo, soon. Has the two clock faced pumps and what looks to be a very large Gargoyle cabinet in the photo along with a car on a street side lift.

Maybe DB can make a positive identification.
