Thought it would be a good idea to run this again so we can get to know some of the new members on here. Were getting close to 5000 members so I'm hoping we can get at least 50 replys from new members. To get to know you all more well I added a couple more questions to answer.

* Your name
* Your occupation
* Introduce your family
* Your petro collection specialties
* The ultimate find you one day hope to attain
* Your favorite pump
* Your favorite company
* How long you've been collecting for
* How you became interested in the gas/oil hobby
*WHATS THE BEST FRIGGIN WEBSITE ON THE NET

So I guess I'll start it off.
My names I'm 16 and live in northern VA. I own a small little business which I do manual labor, basically anything you need done I can do it. Electrical, installing tile and flooring, sheetrock, landscaping, woodworking, etc. I have 3 brothers, 3 sisters, a mom, step-mom,a dad, and a step-dad. Dont really have a petro collection specialty as my collect consists of an American Sign, gas pump, and a couple patches. My favorite pump is a Wayne 60 and my favorite company is Esso or Sinclair cant decide which ones better. My step-dad got me into the hobby about 5 years ago and its by far, the coolest hobby you could get into. And of course BY FAR, Oldgas is the grooviest place on the net. And my ultimate find would be non-petro, a 1969 Plymouth GTX Hemi in a old barn in mint condition. So now that I'm introduced all you newbies need to step-up and tell us about yourselves.

Robert

Hey Gang

My name is Doug, I'm 45 years old. My wife of 8 years is Mary Ann. I'm an Electrician by trade, been doing it for 23 years now. I live a few miles outside of Saline, Michigan in the country.

I'm the youngest of six boys who were all raised in my father's Texaco Station 1950-1970's in Ann Arbor. I have very fond memories of the station and working along side my older brothers and father.

I started collecting Texaco/Havoline about six years ago. Don't really remember how it all got started ? I'm on my very first pump a Wayne 70 that was originally a Texaco farm Pump just a few miles down the road from me. To date I have about 400 cans, 60 signs, 7 globes and lots of misc. little things. I guess so far my prize piece would be a 1950's ladies bowling dress from my father's Station. I found it on eBay.

I'll go for finding a mint Texaco Chimney Cap in an old gas stations attic, or a case of old green cans. That would be cool!!. Probably die of a heart attack though.

Oldgas has given me the opportunity to make new friendships along the way. I've met a few of you guys in person and hope to meet the rest of you crazies in the near future.

Hope You Catch Your Dream,

Doug

Howdy. My name is Mike CARSON. Married to Michelle for 21 years. Dog named Akita.

Retired. I am a collector of too much stuff, Michelle says. I like parking meters, fire hydrants, old tools and farm implements, old phones, lanterns, rocks, Land Cruisers, old clocks, etc.
My buddy got me my first gas pump for my birthday.

A Tokheim 39 tall from Don Sherwood. The gas pump came with Don's card and oldgas.com on the back. I have been hooked ever since. I can't say I have a favorite company. I like them all. Favorite pump is my 39. It was such a shock to see it in my buddies truck on my birthday. It will be awhile before it gets a restore but I think it adds a touch of class to the shop as is. Wife is calling me for dinner, got to go.

Im John from Tinmouth, VT
Im 46, married for 24yrs and have 3 great kids.
I am a retired attorney and have always loved old things. I bought a broken down house that was built in 1791 and have been restoring it for the last 15yrs. My pump came with the place and Ive been meaning to fix it up, but have had other priorities (a bathroom, a roof that doesnt leak, building a shop!)
I just joined the group and dont have a collection, or a favorite pump or brand. However, I think I just found a new hobby. Some of the globes I have seen are really beautiful. A bunch of them would sure look good displayed in my new shop.
I had no idea guys were so into this. Thanks for being so helpful. Ill be comming back for advice as I proceed.

Hi all, I guess as a newbie I better speak up. I'm Lyle, 38 years young, a auto bodyman, single... can't find a woman that likes my hobbies like oldgas stuff and Oldsmobile 442's and Hurst/Olds, I like Frontier and Husky, but I never refuse a gas sign even if the sign is in rough shape... somebody has to give them a good home. I like restoring M&S 80 gas pumps... I'm starting #7 a Conoco with the ad glass top. This is a cool sight... Dances with pumps told me about it and Raring to go told me to watch for his artical on Frontier where he put my picture of my salt & pepper shakers on. Great job Chris. Hopfully I can contribute to this great sight in the future.

Hi Everyone. My name is Steve Quick and I have been a member for a few years now. I am 45 years old, married with two teenage kids. I am a professional firefighter, actually a Captain. I got started with restoring old cars and presently have a 1960 GMC short box and a 68 Camaro convertible. I bought my first pump about 20 years ago and restored it to Firechief. About 7 years ago i found my second pump then i couldnt stop. I have about 20 pumps, mostly electrics and one visible. My favorite is my wayne 60 which I just restored to Red Indian. I collect pretty much anything auto related but am running out of room so I am getting a little pickier. I also have a few pop machines, or soda machines as you southern people refer to them as. I enjoy heading to Hershey every year. My best find was a canadian Vulcanizer, 10 gallon visible that I found in the country while I was running to train for a marathon. I guess running does pay off.

Quick, I grew up in NY where they call it pop, but here in New England, its soda. So far, from my limited experience, i guess a gas pump is a gas pump everywhere in the states anyway. Probably a Petrol pump in Europe I assume.

Hey Gang,
Newb here, just discovered the website, first post so be gentle.
I'm Jim, a 50 something claims adjuster, in Harrison, Arkansas. The wife of 17 years, She Who Must Be Obeyed, and I bought a hundred year old Victorian home 5 years ago, and have finished the remodel, etc., so now I get to turn the old garage out back into an old country gas station. I've picked up a
National pump, model C38, in Gulf colors, circa 1948, along with a few other bits and pieces. If anyone has sources for National parts, I'd like to hear about them. Thanks for listening, and Merry Christmas to all.

Check out the links to parts suppliers on this site. Vics 66, Ron Scobie and Gas Pump Heaven all carry parts for the National A-38. Most parts should be interchangeable to your pump.

My name is Jim, and I`m an inspector for the county building department. Originally from Michigan, but living in Florida half mylife. I have 6 boys, 3 grown & gone, 3 still at home. We are a family of collectors. My wife has a HUGE Coca-Cola collection, with a little bit of everything they ever put their name on. One of my boys collects Hess trucks, jackets, hats, etc. One collects NASCAR toys. I collect radiator caps from the late 1920s to the mid 1930s....(all the birds, rockets, Gods & Godesses, etc.) Somehow, the wife`s Coke collection just blended into gas station stuff, and we added gas pumps, globes, oil racks, and signs. Most of that is in the garage with 4 classic cars. The ultimate find would be a "bowl pump", that pre-dates the sidewalk, or curb pumps.
Our Tokheim 620 is our favorite. No particular favorite brand, but would like to add a Phillips shield globe, and a Standard flame to the collection some day.

Well Im not a newbie but Im a lurker and havent been on here in a while....
My name is Scott and I live at Lake Powell
Im parts manager at a (the) Ford dealership here. 47 years old married to Susie for 16 years 2 great teenage sons. I feel like Ive collected it all, then sold it, If I had all the stuff Ive had and sold I could retire a wealthy man, Double digits of 50s-60s VW`s, a bunch of 60s Chevy musclecars 5 Camaros, a Chevelle, several trucks. I did pedal cars before they were re-popped, cigarette machines, Soda vending machines, popcorn machines, still have a few pinball machines, and some parking meters. My wife says if its a large metal object I like it. I currently have a Wayne visible Rat-Resto`d on my patio and a Tokheim 39 in my living room and another in the workshop. I have gotten lots of useful info here and met some nice folks

Hello, I'm Jeff from Minnesota, 47 years old, I do environmental work, married, two boys in college. Other than the Gilbarco 96C I recently purchased at a farm auction for 40 bucks, the only other gas station related item I have is a plastic Sinclair dinosaur bank I got as a kid. I really don't have any favorites at this time.
I really appreciate the help I have already received from this site and the members. You may get tired of the simple questions I ask, I really don't know anything, such as: How many cranks does it take to reset a VR? (looks like 1 complete turn would work) What does The H-C stand for in the Sinclair sign? I could go on and on.
BTW we call it a pop machine up here in MN, my uncle in Florida calls it a Coke machine regardless of brand.

Hi Guys, my name is John, 32 years young!! Married with 2 young boys (2 years and 4 weeks).I am from Victoria, Australia and I work in customer service. I have been on this site for about 2 years and have added to my collection from other members on this site.
I collect 1LB grease cans and handy oilers.
My favourite companies are Golden Fleece, Texaco, Atlantic and Esso.
I am always prepared to buy or swap oilers and grease cans.
The hobby creates great interest for both me and my family and nearly every weekend is taken up hunting down those elusive oil cans.
The ultimate for me would be to visit the Hershey and Carlisle swapmeets over there in the USA, but I think I might have to wait for my boys to get a little older!!
If you would like to sell or swap any oilers send me an email and I will reply asap.
Happy hunting !!!

Well you can't find more of a "newbie" on this website than me. This is POST #1. Hello to fellow new-b JeffW just 3 towns north-ish of me. Any other Minnesotans that would like to sound off? Drop me a line if you would like.

I have to say my favorite pump at this time is the Wayne 70 or the 100. There is something about those shoulders that look good on a pump.

My favorite station brand is in my user-name, Skelly. It also happens to be the brand that was on the first pump I got at an auction. That is what started it all for me.

I just had the pleasure to meet TomD this weekend and he had the pleasure to empty my billfold. Thanks for the M&S 80 too!

My other bad habit happens to be 67-72 Chevy Suburbans, trucks, and Blazers..... What can I say. It's a sickness that helps fill the barn, the shed, and my other shed. The good news is, Gas pumps sure are a lot smaller!

------------------
I like anything Skelly and all 67-72 GM Trucks, Suburbans & Blazers. The more the merrier!

Name is John Nelson, live in Rice Lake WI. I'm Married to a semi-understanding wife and 3 kids. Thanks to Tom D for letting me know about this site and for selling me my first Pump to restore/ Bennett 1066, and recently an Ecco Air Meter.. Thanks TOM! I mainly collect Coca-Cola memorabilia 1950's and earlier. I Have over 7 1950's Coke Machines, 100+ Coke signs, and some other vintage coin op stuff. Got into Pumps cause they look as cool as an old Coke Machine, and wanted to have some stuff to put with my 59 Vette. I would like to build an old Texaco style service station/shop/storage/collection building someday. Love the Hobby, love this site. Can't wait to start restoring the Bennett.
Thanks

The name is Dave from Northern Nevada. I am a 24 year veteran of the Sheriff's office and am currently a patrol Sgt after spending most of my career as a Detective.

I build Mopars, cudas, challengers ect. I currently have way too many projects but keep buying them. My recent attraction is to the Max Wedge era of the hobby.
I also have 6 or so gas pumps, signs, ect. I have a 4200 sq ft shop and office for building cars, pumps, ect. I am into old juke boxes as well and have a home built 40s/50s style diner which is pictured below.
I have 2 years and I will retire to Idaho on 175 acres I have up there. Hope its not too many pics but I am a hyper guy and it was late. Also pictured are some Exide 1957 signs I recently stumbled into.
My main hobby are my three kids, the youngest of which is 13 and shes my best friend.

Actually, that Cuda will be for sale very soon. Its become such a valuable car that I really cant afford to hang onto it and dont enjoy watching it sit in the shop.

As far as the stuff I have, I have found most very cheap. As far as the shops, I have built every square inch myself, which is the only way I can afford any of this stuff. I am actually going to start getting rid of some of the cars as they are too much work and concentrate on more gas pumps, ect as I can do them fairly fast compared to a whole car.

Hello ~ I am a newbie as well. Only have a few pieces in my (you can barely call a) collection including two empty 5 gal oil cans (One is Quaker State with a wood handle and the other is an Oilzum). I have a round metal emblem (about 2 ft diam.) that 'at one time' would have been bolted to a State Police Cruiser's door. Also got a "Sorry, Last Car in Line " red & white sign circa the mid 1970s Gas Crunch. And with your help it has been determined that the wood Red Flying Pegasus I have is an artist's rendition, but it may have been carved for a local mom & pop Mobil gas station.

So nothing super awesome, but my Great-Great Grandpa owned both a Standard Oil and a Red Crown Gas Station eons ago. Sorry to say I have nothing to show for it; but my Uncles might have something still tucked away in their garages.

Thanks to my Dad, I grew up around cars and as a kid I spent many an afternoon exploring in local junk yards...just wandering in awe…cars upon cars as far as the eye could see...

best regards;

Willie55,
Sounds like you might have a awesome collection started actually. Someday, even the Gas crunch sign will be highly valuable. And when your Uncles die, well just think of the possibilities of adding to your collection! ( Just joking of course)
Welcome, and enjoy what you have!
