the genuine article! ebay item number 270754451955 sign made 1926-1942 or so, sheeting applied 1938 or after. (Oklahoma did retrofit their signs with reflective sheeting when the stuff was invented.) if anyone from OldGas contacts me (jake@aaroads.com or use the PM feature), it's yours for 2200, shipped.

Is that $2200?? or $220? Looks to me like if you turn it over all the paint will fall off. Then if you repaint or restore it I think you are better off buying his new one since he coppied them on his website and the metal blank exactly anyway. My 2c.

The sheeting isn't going anywhere. for you, 2199.98, as you've already given me 2c

I think this sign burned regards all the paint bubbles you're probably right. what's interesting, though is the splotch of blank ink to the left of "US". It's as though they repainted it, using a roller, after the sheeting had already bubbled up. that's Okla DOT getting as much mileage out of their signs as they could!

$2200?? Serious!! SOrry I can only pay $2100 for it.. How much are your repop ones that you sell just like it? Looks to me like someone put paint stripper on it and then buried it for a year or so.. sorry my opinion.
What is sheeting?? fancy word for paint I guess.. If was going to buy it, but I wouldnt, I would "lead Test" it which tells all....

...Jake, this isn't an attack, just some advice...
...if I were in your shoes, I would give SERIOUS consideration to permanently marking your repro highway shields as such, in a way that would ensure no one would be deceived down the road...it seems like the lack of such identification on your repro highway shields comes up every time you post something on Oldgas...
...I would think in the long run it would benefit you - your original items (and everyone else's) would hold their value and wouldn't be subject to such scrutiny...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I too think it is great advice. But the ones that are already out there will FOREVER be a problem, A Real collector would have made sure that would never happen in the planning stages of production.

it seems like the lack of such identification on your repro highway shields comes up every time you post something on Oldgas... I do appreciate the advice, and the civility with which it was presented... but, it happens to be irrelevant to the subject at hand. let's keep that topic in its own discussion thread.

You have been avoiding this subject for months. YOU are one of the BIG problems with reproductions made to look real and fool unsuspecting and uneducated buyers with your Garbage Fantasy pieces. If you really gave a cats rear about the hobby you would have done something by now. I don't know why you are still allowed to advertise your Unmarked repros on this site.
