DB,
In your sales sample photo:
Is that what the tanks would have looked like underground, and that you could indeed have two different types of gas when the pumps were really close on an island in the way early days? Or were the early tanks those concrete floaters (popped out of the ground because they were empty) that someone posted a while back
Someone had mentioned back in December, that it would also not be unusual in rural stations for the same gas to be sold as two different products. The example was premium being labeled as 'permium' and 'regular.' I understand that the distributers would not have allowed regular, however the be sold as 'premium.'
So which is correct, or could the tanks have been either metal or concrete? Or did the concrete 'boxes' hold one or more metal tanks?
If that is a tank, it's smaller than I expected. I guess folks didn't use their cars back then as much as we do now.
Thanks for any info! : )

Never heard of tanks being anything other than steel until they switch over to Fiberglass.
Tank above in Sample could be ordered w/ any size needed/wanted.
Wouldn't surprise me if Regular was sold as a higher grade a few times, because delivery guy made a mistake & filled the wrong tank. But can't see it happening on a regular basis as I'm sure the fine would be expensive, then as now.

This G & B was with my Bowser 318 I got a couple of years ago. It was a package deal. (Free! I had to take both with me because the lady did not want either of them on her property any longer. She was getting in to her car, while in the garage and snagged the G & B with her purse. It fell on to her car causing a huge dent. The pumps were her late husbands.)

This is a Milwaukee Tank Works pump I got from my Grandpa and it was restored by my Brother. You can set it for 1 quart, 1 pint or 1/2 pint.
