Outer sleeve chains are connected to cast iron Sash Weights w/ a wheel at top of each pipe that also holds the top casting.

How tall is this monster? How much does it weigh?
-Well I still have to pick it up, but Id estimate 60" or so, maybe taller and 300lbs.

Lance, I helped a guy move one of these years ago and I think you're optimistic on the 300lb est. Seemed more like 500, cool piece

Here is one in use to give you an idea of size, I guess it's more than 60", and I think Neil is right about the weight, looks heavy!

IF it weighs over 350# I'd be surprised. The matching Pump [AERO], might be close to 350#, more bulky than heavy.
Closer to 74-78" on one in picture.

Here's a picture I have showing it in use. There seems to be a Union theme.

So it was like the old windows - well, that was the "technology" of the day. Pretty cool.

dfranchi's picture is a different model than the one Pogo bought.

BigTom, just like a lot of draw bridges w/ counter weights.
