I have a globe with the medal base and ring. It has surface rust. Is It o.k. to sand and paint It,(value wise)? Should I take the lenses out? If so any easy methods? Thanks In Advance,

Whitestar..everyone has different opinions on stuff...i personally would leave it as is being original...but if you want a nice shiny one..you have a couple of options. If it isnt too rusted you can take the lenses out (CAREFULLY) and either repaint or sell the original body and get a new body to paint or powdercoat. People are always on the hunt for original bodies. I also have had real bad metal bodies that I just painted over the rust with a brush. Gives it an "authentic" look (thats how they used to do it) But I have only done this with bodies that were real bad..otherwise I just leave them alone :-) Good Luck whatever you decide.
