Doug:

despite the placement of the holes in the sign
there should be a red triangle inside the A

Reminds me of the AM-59 Invader sign on ebay last week that you all said was bogus. The seller is not treasureray this time though.

Missing the red triangle in the A and REG.T.M. under the star.
A real one does'nt have a date that I'm aware of. Also, the TEXACO letter size is completely wrong. I'm comparing to two that I have seen and the one on my wall.

If you look at item 290582432355 the triangle isnt filled in on this one. I think the 2 holes are nail holes cause they are uneven. Plus it has a rub wear around the C, I say its real or it sure fooled me.

Well I guess I didn't word my statement very well. : )

As far as I know they NEVER made a 24" with this logo. Only one from the 20's. The date thing is what ***** me off.

Most 6 footers are dated at 6 O'clock by the black border. A 62 sign would have the circle R trademark...

Well I bought the sign and beleive it to be real. I know of three others that showed up in Lynchburg Va. and I hear they came from some one that worked for Allan Morrison Sign Co. A friend of mine kept one. Living in Lynchburg I have seen some strange signs show up over the years.

So "IF" someone's playing around in the factory makes a few of these ???

That makes it an "Original" Texaco Advertising item ?

The back isn't even porcelain.

It is not a porcelain sign. Allan Morrison Sign Co. made no porcelain signs that I am aware off.

Several years ago a friend of mine picked up a small Gulf Solar Heat die cut sign, the size of a pump plate. He put it on e-bay and got big bucks for it. I had bid much higher on it then I thougth it was worth having looked at it. I did not get it. Had never seen or heard of one before. It showed up at a yard sale of one of the sons of the Sign Co. owners. As far as I know there is only one but who knows.
Another friend had four or five of an unseen Coke Sign. After he sold a few and it ended up in Petretti's price guide book it became a legit sign. Again an unknown find from the local sign co. No others found but a known source.

I can't remember seeing any in person, nor in the "Collector's Bibles". Texaco as I remember, was pretty anal about every station looking pretty much the same.

IMO.....this will be considered a fantasy item until there is some documentation or photographic evidence to the contrary. I am not saying it couldn't be real....but there seems to be no proof.

Take a look at e-bay #280774430291 I know this is not a logo sign but it is a painted enamel sign made by the Allan Morrison Sign Co. in 1972. I have one of these which a friend took from the factory many years ago and gave to me. I have another friend that has this same sign but it is in english and says kerosine. I had never seen one before. I have five different Texaco signs that are all dated A 3-72 Made in USA. I also have a painted enamel Sky Chief Marine pump plate dated A 12-61 Made in USA. I know there has been talk about that one as well on this chat. One of these days I will figure out how to post pictures it would make it more interesting.

I've seen most these signs you're talking about. Even have/had them in my collection. Some of these signs I believe were made for the foreign market ?
