Pump lights ? Since I am new here I have a question that might insult the pump police, I hope not. I would like to have an Island light, I think you call them, on my pump I have the ability to do some cool Machine work and can weld and paint, my question is would it be OK to build one to fit on top of my pump? or is this just wrong from the git go ? I really dont know . any opinions?

Thanks Ryan I might just try that since it is my first pump and probably no one else will ever see it any way. Mike

Mike, There's a big difference between what you want to do and those that would do it commercially and refer to it as antique or old. Back in the day, I'm sure there were others that rigged up their own design to light up a pump! I'm sure they didn't have the tools or ability that todays machinists have. Keep us in the loop. We'd love to see something that Another Old Gasser was able to manufacture!!

Thanks KW thats kinda what I was thinking too. I have in my past life built street rods, restored old cars, and generally made a mess acording to my wife, around here, and a lot of the time I just did it the way I thought it should be done, and it worked out most of the time Mike

Mike, I think all the "pump police" are out of town right now, so get it done quickly! lol Like the other guys said, it's your pump, please yourself. I know of one guy who turned a few pumps into "stationliter" type pumps by mounting a large piece of PVC pipe, in between the globe holder on top of the pump, and the globe it's self. It actually looked pretty good. He was asked to leave town by sundown, but for another infraction, not the light addition to his pumps. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. [quote=Mtn. Mike] I have in my past life You mean back in your early days,right- still on life #1 I hope. Your pump do what you want. I have 17 fry I want to fuse 117 lights to, but I know I would never hear the end of it. I want all the bells and whisttles ,as I won't own but a couple. But I've decided it just wouldn't be right, on my pump as I'm doing period correct, with a special brand in mind.

Well that worked out pretty good Ive gotten approval, and some cool Ideas too, thanks to all who responded and thanks for the pics too. I saw a pic the other day that looked just like a huge stainless steel bowl that was inverted and used as a light top. I thought maybe I could get one of those and have it powder coated to whatever color I wanted or leave it stainless . gotta think on that . any opinions guy's? Mike

Mike, if you are looking for a "bonnett" you can buy them from the after-market guys. If none of them are the right size for your project, use the upside down bowl. I can promise you, you won't be the first to try that. Either I, or someone I know, has used: a Wok, Stainless bowl, and one time, a small sink. Don
