Quite industrial looking. I'm really excited but for someone who doesn't know anything about pumps they might think it looks like a boiler or something.

I assume the options without the bass was for all above ground installation or where they didn't have room to mount a base? Or what is the earlier version before the bases were put on just curious. Thanks guys.

Someone decided/assumed it was SAFER to have pump mounted above the bumper height on a concrete pedestal, instead of the typical 4-6" high island.

Early pumps as pictured above only came that way, NO base like on later Mae West pumps. I have a later version that has the Stamped Steel skins that I added a base to.

1st 2yrs there was no Raised base, then they did a Short base, approx 1920/21 they moved the pump mech. into the Raised base.
Ryan had to help load/unload the Cast Iron Beast his buddy bought at IG! Probably still seeing Stars & thinking how High the New Boat will FLY!

Heres mine but it has a 10 gallon cylinder and a cast iron base that it sits on! Main body of the pump is very heavy and not just stamped steel. Same with the bonnet and globe holder, they are also cast.

KILLER PUMP! WOULD YOU HAVE SEEN A FRY 17 W/TOTALIZER ATTACHED TO A CAST BASE IN THOSE DAYS AT ALL? OR WERE THEY ALWAYS ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO A ISLAND OR WHATEVER TYPE OF FOUNDATION? OR IS IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT TO A CAST BASE? REASON I COMMENT ON THIS IS BECAUSE I'M SITTING HERE VISUALIZING THIS PUMP ATTACHED TO A CAST BASE & WHOA .....THAT WOULD BE NICE.ALL THE PLUMBING LOOKS THE SAME AS MY FRY 5 GALLON ,ON MY BASE AT THE BACK DOWN LOW IT ALLOWS FOR THE 1"1/4 PIPE & HAS A INDENTION,I'M THINKING IT WOULD WORK/?????? BUT I DOUBT I WILL NEVER FIND A TOTALIZER .... ANYWAYS GREAT PUMP & THANK YOU FOR SHARING !

Yes kevin me jealous to. Good looking pump. I have one bought in tx, I've yet to go get. Waiting till it cools off, heard its so hot the hard shell possumns are rolling up on the half shell. Remember I think Jacks book making mention of the totalizer being added. Without it gas is basic gravity dumped correct? What is the difference with the totalizer. DB, go slow---- and maybe I'll get it.

Totalizer is the pipe looking thing along side the nozzle & hose w/ numbers at top under a cover. Hose attached to bottom of Totalizer.

Well this has sat for almost a week, so I quess I stole your post sorry. I spoke to DB, by email and he shed some light on my question. And I relize I wasn't clear. I was wondering why they added the totalizer, how did it enhance the fry pump. Faster delivery of gas to auto, etc. This was the years as everyone was in race to build better mouse trap,so to speak. Lots of compaines marketing add on parts. Looking forward to Jacks article in monthly mag, as he list other parts that was produced for the Fry. DB THANKS for the date list when its all there in one spot it makes more sense to me anyway.

Ok it finally arrived. My oldest brother had to go with my father to pick it up in the middle of nowhere or so they said. It maybe the first time my brothers hands have been dirty in decades. My Dad said he almost died when he tried to lift it onto the truck. Awesome looking pump and the totalizer apparatus is totally cool. OK yes I'm pretty excited about this one. Glass was a slightly purple tint with etched gallon lines. Too bad it was broken.

Both the totalizers I've had were porcelain-faced clock dials. Never seen this version.

I think I will. it is neat how the blank door on the back is amost totally flat and very thich along with the galon set lever is almost twice the weight and thickness as the later ones. They trimmed manufacturing costs moving forward I would say because for a baseless FRY this sucker was way heavier then I thought it would be.

What is the petcock looking drain lever on the bottom of the totalizer or is it what I roughly described it as?

Not a PETCOCK on bottom, just a round valve wheel for releasing the Fluid from cylinder to hose, instead of a Quick Shut-off gate valve.
Almost bet the Totalizers that petropumps had were made by Neptune [very similar to what water companies use today for home meter systems, curbside]. Totalizers above were made by GUARANTEE for use on their pumps.

Congradulations, nice enough to enjoy as is after addressing the glass issues. Knowing your track record, this won't be the case. I really think I'm a fan of the cast iron base models. Quess it could be added, opps here comes the pump police. Great Find!

The totalizer I'm talking about is pictured on page 173 of Jack's newest book. I'd be surprised if they weren't made specifically for Guarantee's pumps as much of the original literature shows them pictured with these. What makes you think they were Neptune, Dick? I will say though, there were no distinguishing marks on either of the ones I've had.

What makes you think they were Neptune, Dick? Top right pg 173, it says totalizer made by Neptune in description. I have had some made by Neptune & others w/o names but looked the same.

Have you ever had any with any markings from Guarantee? Perhaps they were all made by Neptune.
