Thanx s932, I wanted ESSO because I started pumping gas from a ESSO pump in the early 70s but the TEXACO goodies came with the deal I could not turn down. Mike

mike's48,
This pump looks great! I am thinking about going this route on a Tokheim 300 that I have (it will be my first pump).. I'm going to get the thing Media Blasted and then i might do what you did with the tractor/implement paint.
I have a few questions... Did you paint the metal with primer before you painted? Did you do any sanding between coats? Is this paint pretty tough (have you scratched up any of the panels yet)?
I really like the really shiney pumps, but If I know me, i'd scrach it up within the first week. Thats whats so nice about this route... Its not a "Perfect" finish therefore a scratch isn't that big of a deal.. I just thought i'd get mine stripped, painted and put in the house, and if I decide later on down the road i want it "showcar" quality, i can do that when I have a little more money to burn...

Thanx skynyrd, This was my first after wanting one for years..........any way (Great name bytheway)
I had mine sand blasted inside and out of all the panels then rattle can primer and gloss black spray the inside and just primer the outside. The frame just blowed off with air and sanded (a little)then rattle can primer and gloss black. The outside skins were 1st coated with New Holland tractor paint then waited 24 hrs. lighly scuffed with steel wool(000)then applied 2nd coat. After 12 hours I assembeled what you see in the picts. The paint seems pretty tuff I was real slow putting it back together and carefull. The real test will be when we move it to my garage and bolt it down. Good luck and remember send picts! Mike

Nice job Mike. As for myself, I'm not too partial to the over detailed, highly ploished with extra chrome & pinstriping pump. For some silly reason, I think that all of that is perfectly OK for a lubester, but not a pump. Its my opinion, nobody else has to agree with me. As far as a first time pump restoration, which this is all about, I did a little feature about it. Check this out. http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001409.html As I said, just about any process or procedure can be improved upon. So lets get them old pumps, and our rattle cans, and lets see what we can do....
Anything Chevron I'd rather be flying.....
