So what is the verdict on this lens? Is it an original or an undated repro?

I would say its real. But I am not a Globe Guy. I don't think any of the repops say "Property of the Wilshire Oil Co." on the Bottom edge of the lens.

The repops do say that but I am with you Jason, I think it is real but unless holding in my hand I can't be sure.

I think it looks like the genuine article. Do the repros have the 6 o'clock notch like this one does? I would doubt the repros do, but I have never handled any 15" reproduction lenses. I was suprised to see it and it looks like another item that the seller has no idea what they have. Unfortunately I expect this item to start getting up there in price then someone will make an offer and they will end the auction. Guess we'll see where it goes!

I'll say $12,500, if I was a globe collector I'd be a wreck this week!

isn't this the same area the last one came from a couple of years ago? What about the font on property of wilshire, is it right? I'm not saying it's not, I don't know enough about globes to offer a guess, just curious.

So Randy, were there Polly stations in Washington? Seems strange that multiple holy grail lenses are found that far from home.

Wilshire Oil was a west coast company based in Los Angeles- the lens pictured was obtained in
Gold Beach, Ore

It won't be pulled I believe. We emailed a couple of times and explained to him about what he had and how not to end the auction early because of what could be at the end. I hope that he makes the correct move.

If that globe would have been at Matthews auction it would have went a lot higher. Your right Craig people just not sure because they can't touch it

I had a 10K sniper bid until visiting with people I trust on this lens. I agree with what I was told. It would be better to pay $15k for one you have seen and are sure about than one the seller won't answer questions on.
And I can do the money. I canceled the sniper with 6 hours left.
The lens had to many questionable problems for me

besides the seller not answering questions on the lens
(that might be enough) to cancel snipe- was there any other problems with the lens itself that you seen?

I agree someone stole that lens! I asked a question and he returned my email no problem. If I had 10K to throw down, and it not affect everyday life I surely would have...

Polly lens was a fake..
Yes, It was a real piece of *****. Instead of a notch at the bottom, it was just cut out, along with many other problems

It is tough to deal now in a world of either profiteers or just someone who has had something passed on to them. Like reproductions that were meant to be just that until the next person passed it off as a real one because of no scruples or smarts. Pumps, signs, globes, neons, what next in our hobby?
