As I watched another Harley can hammered down sold yesterday, for 135, I scratch my head and think. Since 1970, I've have used only harley brand in bikes. On average changeing oil and primarey 4 to 5 times a year. 5 QUARTS X 4 TIMES A YEAR= 2700.00 a year. Who would of thought about keeping a bunch of oiley old cans. DB would be busy reliding for several months,he could market them on west coast ,me on east coast and we would both be rolling in the green. Yes I'm willing to share in my missed fortune. Anybody else realize where they missed it lets hear it.

If you kept those cans and everyone else did they would be worth nothing. The fact they survived is a big part of why the value of cans and other gas-oil related items are high-low supply high demand.
The most valuable commodity I know of is information-Wall Street

Had 6 19th century gold coins--gave them to my Sis 11 years ago. How much is gold worth now? Let's see, 2 ounces X 6.....
Have a friend who had a chance to buy a Norman Rockwell 30 years ago for a thou, but needed the money for rent and groceries.

Hauling my 39 Ford convertible to the scrapyard for scrap. But what the hey that was in 1955 and that was all it was worth, scrap. Gas and oil related when Husky had the laborers go upstairs in the old boilerhouse and throw down the new globes in the dump truck to take them to the dump. They were tearing down the building to use the land for the coker unit. The 24 porcelain light shades in the machine shop alone that went to the scrap pile to upgrade the lights in the shops. The Texaco Marfak grease cans that we used to grease couplings on pumps. That was still in the 80's and 90's but it wouldn't hold up to the abuse. I'll bet the last can that we had in the machine shop is still sitting on top of the tool cabinet just where I left it in 2003. And lastly the brass fire extinquishers That were sent to the scrapyard when they outlawed carbontetrachoride. So life goes on, wonder what will happen to this computer that I'm writing this on? Marathon cleaned out an old storeroom in the basement of a building where I work. Looked in one of the boxes. Just display stands. I grabbed one to use in my garage. Little did I know till the dumpster was gone there was a nice sign that went with each stand in the boxes....
A year after that, they cleaned out old blue print files. All went to the dumpster. Didn't figure anyone would want old station blueprints (40's - 50's). They were large and bulky. Then I read on hear later that Jim and others liked collecting them.... Dang It!!!! My rule since then... Grab Now, throw away later.

I load my tanker truck at a Chevron loading rack pipe line bulk plant faculty here in Albuquerque, And about three years ago I was digging around the warehouse with their permission of course. And found a whole box of all different sizes of Flight Gasoline ad-glass under one of the shelves. And they said they had more boxes, with glass That they threw out. The dude said he could hear glass braking when they were trowing boxes in the dumpster. I'm guessing these were Chevron lenses and Flight Gasoline lenses. Only about Three years ago.

Me too, " Pawn Stars" passed on Steve McQueens Indian inline 4 the other night. Wouldn't put 130 grand in it. With the economy that might of been top dollar, but I think " they missed the boat ". 67chevy -I thought about them globes hitting the dumptruck all night last night.
