I posted pictures of these globes in the value section last week when I was trying to confirm whether or not I should buy them. I'm a quart can guy with some old gas pumps but these were too hard to pass up. I told everyone who helped me out with the value that I'd tell how I found them, or rather how they found me, so here goes.
I got a call a couple of weeks ago from a gentleman who aquired three NOS globes back in 1971 when he worked next to a bulk plant in Napels, NY. It seems he found my name along with others on an old petroleum collectors web site.
He indicated that he sent an email to the first gentleman on the list who I know has a sizeable globe collection but that it bounced back. After failing to make that contact he emailed me.
Now I'm not much of a globe guy. Two kids, two cats and a dog kind of want to make you stay away from items that easily brake. I must admit, however, that I had to look at these globes if for no other reason than because they were suppose to be in their original boxes.
At any rate when I showed up at his place he pulled out two Tydol Ethly globes and one Tydol Globe from their boxes. The 13.5" lenes are mounted on Gill Globes. Two of the globes have red bands and one has black bands.
He had moved the globes several times, even at one point using one as a lamp shade, was about to move to Arizona and decided to try and raise some money and give them a good home.
Needless to say I brought them home and they are in my garage still in the boxes waiting for me to get up the courage to display them. I think I did well. Now all I have to do is keep the kids and pets at least 20 feet of the garage!!
Oh, I won't be telling the first gentleman to update his contact information either.

It's good to see items like these (packaging, history) can still be found. Great score!
