I had an old friend call last week and he was cleaning out his garage and he had an old lubester that he thought I might buy! After getting the description, (it was a small 15 gal), I decided to stop over and talk about the last few years, if nothing else. It was a very nice little 15 gal unit branded with Standard Iso-Vis decals and I bought it from him. Being the picker that I am, I quickly gravitated to the heaping trailer load of discards that was going to the dump. Our conversation turned to WHY all the cleaning and thats when the discoveries began.
He was making room for some of the things he collects and one of them was Ford Model A's. He had 4 of them in another building and he regularly drives all of them! He indicated that he had just purchased another one that was restored but that he was really after the spare engine that went with it. He was planning on selling the restored car!
With my curiosty piqued, he explained that it was a 1930 roadster that had been restored and was residing in a museum, not far from where we lived and that I should come along and take a look at it! I immediately offered to help with the load going to the dump and offered my services to rescue the Roadster.
To make a long story short, we unloaded the trailer at the dump where I couldn'gt help but drag a few things home with me and we planned out the trip to the museum the next day. We had a great time reliving the past on that trip and when I spotted the car, I fell in love! I spent the rest of the afternoon try to wrangle a price from him and never got one but we had to go back the next day for the spare motor any way.
We took some extra time getting the spare motor and went thru the entire museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. It ewas a real step back in time! On the trip home, I was finally able to coax a price out of him and I'm now the proud owner of this great old car! I've taken my first short trips in it and I had a blast! It wouldn't be my choice for a long trip but for sheer fun, it can't be beat!
Moral of the story is: Go check out the most average of Petroliana possibles, you never know what else is in the same building!!

Nice find Kevin, how do you like that non-syncro tranny.
We had a national Model-A meet here in San Diego in June, one fellow and his grandson drove out from South Carolina and a couple cars driven from the upper mid west, Ohio I think. Look into joining one of the national clubs. Google MARC and/or MAFCA. Just started working on my 1929 "Murray" Town Sedan, it came as a complete basket case, will be quite awhile before it is on the road.
Enjoy,
Ed

Nice car. I learned to double clutch driving one of those. My dad cringed every time I had to shift.

LOL! No Chuck, its completely stock. I went on a little 20 mile jaunt with it yesterday and I have a new appreciation of our ancestors that used these things every day!
Don't get me wrong here, as its a blast to drive but top end is around 45 and it rides pretty good on smooth pavement! I can't imagine what it would be like at 45 down a rough gravel road with potholes!
Of course, eighty years from now, they'll be wondering how we ever managed with the cars we drive!!
