You will not find this stuff being sold anywhere. Look at what he took....mostly very low value "things" He is a cleptomaniac who is doing it for the thrill. The adrenalin rush of the risk. This stuff is at his house as trophies to remind him of the "fun" he had taking it!.

Talk about just shooting him is crazy. He is doing a petty crime and would get probation at most if caught....and the big defender of property shooting him would be doing 25 years to life and justifiably so!. How would you feel if this guy was your son, brother, friend, and had a problem like this and a tough SOB shot him for stealing a Buick hubcap! Wow.

I am in no way condoning his actions!!!!...just trying to put this in the right prospective.

Jim

...probation? Fine...but let's see him arrested and thrown in jail, at least until he posts bail...heck, maybe he'll try to steal someone's smokes, and get the 'help' he so desperately needs... smirk

doesn't matter if its a petty crime or not. its all based upon "reasonable threat". if you have an intruder & you shoot him, your statement to the authorities should be " he was coming at me & said he was going to kill me, i was in fear for my life & knew i had to do something immediately. i now want to speak to my attorney before answering any further questions." this is what you are taught here by police/d.a. etc. while taking your concealed carry permit course. sorry, but if i don't know the intruder, his intentions or what drugs he's spaced out on, i'm going to drop him where he stands. my life means too much to me to take a chance on losing it by trying to reason with the bad guy or hold his hand & sing "kumbaya". the police around here for the most part are "revenue generators", if they can't write a ticket for it, they don't want to deal with the paperwork.

as far as how a father/brother/friend should feel, if they new about the problem & didn't turn him in, they should feel just as guilty as anyone. thats called enabling.

I have to side with Jim on this one. Although there is pretty much nothing I hate more than a thief violence is not a good idea in my opinion. I think the best solution is to gather up as much evidence as you can and get the police to handle it. This is just my opinion.

He's so comfortable. Like he's coming back to visit or shopping. Like he's not doing anything wrong. I was kind of thinking he is very methodically looking and deciding what he is going to select. Like he tried to pull something and it wouldnt come off the wall so he gave up kinda like "I really dont want that that much anyways" and moved to some thing else. Like Jim said ,trophies. Any chance he's got an axe to grind with you about something? Jealous? Maybe you stole his girlfriend in high school? lol. Maybe he doent think you deserve such a nice place. I wonder why he keeps coming back to the same place? I mean no ones that stupid are they? Seems like if the guy has been stealing his whole life for profit he would hit the place hard and move on to somewhere else. Almost like he wants to get caught.

i would only shoot him if he was so drunk he was trying to reach in my pants & pee with my willie.:)

first of all, i'm not picking on jim or trying to start an argument, just good ole commentary, but c'mon, i dont think the o.p. has a problem with a drunk in his bushes, it's someone violating his personal property & stealing his items. i wouldn't have a problem with a drunk wetting on the lawn, but when he finished, if he entered my locked, secured residence, i would pop a cap in him. again, i don't know if he's drunk, hopped up on meth etc. & is he here to steal something or rape & murder my wife, me, kids?? same with the original dirtbag on page one, yeah, he's a thief, but what will he do when he drops by for a "visit" & someone is there?? is he gonna back away & leave or come at you like a tasmanian devil (or in this case, ron jeremy on viagara)? just saying, you don't know who or what you are dealing with in today's society, so i'm not gonna take the gamble.

i also noticed (again not flaming jim , but will refer to his earlier post)in the earlier comment that the perpetrator is referred to as "him","he","son", "brother", & "friend" while the real victim in the situation is called "the big defender of property" & "tough SOB" if he protects his interests. sorry, but i don't agree with that being the "right prospective".seems that, just like we see in the court systems daily, that the roles get reversed to where the criminal is the victim & vice versa.

in today's society with all the nutbags running around, the main responsibilty falls on you. i'm not saying run around willy-nilly & shoot everyone you think is in the wrong, but i wouldn't solely depend on the police to take care of you. i have been trained & have taken classes on the proper use of deadly force & in the right circumstance wouldn't hesitate to do so. one of those being my locked secured residence. you just don't know what someone is capable of attempting.
back in june, i took the dog out one night at around 2am. heard a noise & while investigating, found a kid trying to break into my neighbors vehicles. no i didn't shoot him :), it wasn't on my property. i did call 911 & let them know "someone is breaking into my neighbors car right now" & went back out. he saw me & took off at a brisk walk until he noticed i was still following him & then broke & ran. i saw enough to i.d. the kid as someone who lives on the back street. the police showed up TWO DAYS LATER, filed a report & didn't even want to talk to me since it wasn't my car broken into, even though i saw him & could probably take them to his residence. the police don't care... i will say, if i catch that kid on this end of the street again, i will have a "heart to heart" talk with him & let him know what will happen if i catch him again.

This maybe a less violent solution, you can purchase a motion detector sprayer. I found one on amazon.
Havahart 5265 Spray Away Motion Detector Sprinkler Animal Repellent
Now fill it with a solution of Mercaptans, you will have to look around for a supplier. I am sure someone can find you a supplier. Set it up near something that he will go for and stand back. If someone is sprayed with this stuff the smell will not come out for days. It works for skunks.
