He comes rt 40 heading west bound. Police have fingure prints and dna, but no match in system. To them, this is not as important as it is to us! He came june 2nd, took a buick hubcap and cast texaco door stop, june 4th took broke window and took plastic gumball gaspump??? july 20th took prestone thermomter, broke window again and ran. and aug. 18thish took firestone sign and green stamp book. Ya, kinda weird selection. I guess the car is a dodge stratus or ford escort? any help? Burry

Just a thought have you talked to your local news team and explained what your trying to do historically with the station, but someone keeps breaking in and you have the video. Where I live the news would be all over it.

its been in the local papers twice, but the local news was not ready to pick it up. until the total hits 1000, it is still a small crime and they dont really cover these. (just not interesting enough i guess.) Thanks, I like the idea.

GET A DOG! I would get a German Shepherd! I had one and they are very protective of their property. Other than the incident in June, seems like the guy travels past your place around the 3rd week of the month - 20th, then the 18th.... not sure if there's a pattern or not, but I think I would put some more items out for the guy and take a vacation and lie in wait for the guy and make a citizen's arrest at gun point if the police aren't willing to step up.

Good luck. Looks like one of those folks you see in the Walmart pictures.

I see 2 clues-
1- Bel Air- is there a college or town where the shirt would be from? Is he headed toward or from Bel Air Maryland?

2- He's got ink on his arms so he's been to a tatoo
parlor- show pictures see if the've seen or know
this person.

next time he sits down for an hour on your bench and has a cig strike up a conversation with him....

WELL, this is against the law, or they really frown on it here. If he is coming in same way evertime, you can give him a little shock. Like 440 works well.
I have a buddy that cleared road ways, etc in nam he sat up a little bomb device for his returning theif Messed him up pretty bad. And he like to got in big trouble over it.
But sometimes you have take care of business !!

But for the fact it might make the guy go berserk and break your camera, damage your property, cut his hair, toss his shirt, etc so you may never find him, a deterent might be to blow up his picture and put it on a sandwich board in the middle of your drive to make him think the cops are onto him.

*sigh* it will probably only scare him off for a few weeks...

Being a retired Sheriff Deputy we have had luck telling people to put up signs that state they are being monitored on hidden survellance camera and thiefs will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Buy some cheap dummy cameras and put them also in all areas. Just some suggestion that might help. Hugh

Think this out a little! You know who the guy is, or at least what he looks like! Install some security stuff that will allow you to monitor from a distance. Put some silent alarm equiptment in place that would be connected to the law enforcement.
Don't know how far you live from the premises, but it should be easy beans to catch someone that keeps coming back!
Maybe hold a wellm advertised public function there and have a street clothes cop there to grab him when he shows. You know what he looks like but he obviously doesn't realize it yet! Work that to your advantage!

I see a bumper sticker or dealer sticker between the right tail light and 3rd brake light on his car.

Tip: This guy needs gas for his car, and there are cameras at the stations. Get friendly with the clerks that work the counter at these places. Give them the photos (especially the night shift workers - seems like this guy is out at 3:30am) and tell them that if they help out you will give them a $100 or something. This has worked for me before: Clerk recognises the guy, calls you or the police saying he was there at X:XXam/pm. Then they pull the time stamped video at the gas pumps / parking lot / etc. and you can get a plate number. This guy smokes too so he is getting his smokes where he gasses up I imagine.

Tip 2: Visit any other police stations that are in your vacinity and bring a stack of copies of his photo and car. (Write the case number + incident descrition down on the photo) Have the desk clerk, or whoever, put a copy in each officers pidgeon hole. Officers may recognise him; if not, they surely know some local 'nair do wells' that would rat him out for brownie points.

Tip 3: Everyone needs to get their mail. Visit local post offices, show the clerks his photo. Some of the ladies that work there have outstanding memories. Also make sure the rural mail delivery guys get the photos as well. Offer rewards, or a donation to local charity on their behalf for help finding him.

Good luck!!!!

If the FBI wanted his plate number they could get it from that photo! Atleast tell if he is from your area. I guess he has to steal somemore before law enforcement will be interested in catching him!

So true LOWright. Maybe put an ad in the local paper with his photo asking if people know who he is!? If they will not publish the picture, just publish a weblink to it! I predict this guy will be caught, and when they serve a warrant on his residence, there is gonna be a whole lot of other stolen stuff there.

i know i'll probably catch some grief over this, but i have absolutely ZERO tolerance for a thief .if it were me, i would start staying there overnight & when the sucker came back, as soon as he was inside the bldg, i would put a bullet in him, done deal. if you don't think you have the heart to kill, catch him outside & before he knows what hit him, wear him out with a good steel pipe. i mean get him before he knows whats happened & break bones, kneecaps etc. if he can't walk again, he cant very well steal anymore. you stand a greater chance of being prosecuted if you maim vs. if you kill with our biased "criminal justice system". again, i just have a really short fuse when it comes to stealing, even when it isn't my property being stolen.

I have tried alot of these. There is no trespassing signs along fence in front. 4 ft high chain running legnth of yard. Have 12 cameras outside, 5 of which record, the rest are dummys. Posted his picture on window with a reward sign here! No kidding, he broke that window!!!! I have a alarm in shop, but no glass breaks, They will go off on their own in colder temp, and I do not heat this place year round. he has to open door or window to set it off. Then it calls me! His picture has run in 2 local papers, front page of 1, twice. I will take care of him if I catch him. I know where to go that the cameras are not looking. This has been bothering me for months. It is on youtube under WAMSLEYS Thanks for the help. Burry

It's kind of like watching a rat scurring around. A out house rat. He really has the caricaturistics of a rodent. I love your station by the way. We had someone dumping lawn clippings on our road for a month or two. One night I got up at 2:00 am and rode the kids bike down the road and stood in the trees. All be darned if the damn paper guy didnt back up next to me and dump a load of grass 10 feet away from me. He doesnt deliver our paper anymore.

Posting no trespassing and Wanted signs or property is under surveillance probably doesn't deter this screwball..From the looks of him he likely is illiterate and cannot read. Who in their right mind would dress and aspire to look like Ron Jeremy?? I'd like to be him for a day or two..but that would be it...Good Luck and keep us posted

If he's stupid enough to leave his car by the roadside....let the air out of all four of his tires, call the police and tell them the location of the car and just pretend you're him complaining that someone let the air out of (my) the tires. He isn't gonna be going anywhere or too far on 4 flats. LOL!

I've got good people in Shiloh, but the next town over ofallon, well I just remind them I can get a State Trooper here in a couple of minutes, are you gonna act like a police officer or a jacka** your call! Your local officers should be more than happy to find this guy, if not call in the County Sheriff or State Troopers, Your paying their salaries.

...that's $1000 right there...call the State Police/Highway Patrol...call the local news...the TV news, not the paper...I just don't believe that they wouldn't send a reporter/cameraman out to tape an interview with you in front of your place with all the gas pumps, etc...they do that around here, just for local interest stories...you've got video of the car and the creep...you say the police have evidence, too? Raise hell with all of the above until you get satisfaction...

...someone was using my credit card in another state, I called the cops several times and no one could tell me who's jurisdiction it was...I called the MAYOR'S OFFICE and complained...I got a call back from him, and he sent someone to check out the address...and that was for less than a $200 crime...

Once my alarm is set, its goes off with an outside siren, the second they cross the beam at the end of the drive. I also stayed here for weeks to catch him. That idea almost back fired, when I open the door cause someone was on my porch... I had a pistol in my hand and so did the 2 cops on the porch. We had our guns pointed at each other. I said... " you scared the heck out of me"... he said, you did the same to us!

You will not find this stuff being sold anywhere. Look at what he took....mostly very low value "things" He is a cleptomaniac who is doing it for the thrill. The adrenalin rush of the risk. This stuff is at his house as trophies to remind him of the "fun" he had taking it!.

Talk about just shooting him is crazy. He is doing a petty crime and would get probation at most if caught....and the big defender of property shooting him would be doing 25 years to life and justifiably so!. How would you feel if this guy was your son, brother, friend, and had a problem like this and a tough SOB shot him for stealing a Buick hubcap! Wow.

I am in no way condoning his actions!!!!...just trying to put this in the right prospective.

Jim

doesn't matter if its a petty crime or not. its all based upon "reasonable threat". if you have an intruder & you shoot him, your statement to the authorities should be " he was coming at me & said he was going to kill me, i was in fear for my life & knew i had to do something immediately. i now want to speak to my attorney before answering any further questions." this is what you are taught here by police/d.a. etc. while taking your concealed carry permit course. sorry, but if i don't know the intruder, his intentions or what drugs he's spaced out on, i'm going to drop him where he stands. my life means too much to me to take a chance on losing it by trying to reason with the bad guy or hold his hand & sing "kumbaya". the police around here for the most part are "revenue generators", if they can't write a ticket for it, they don't want to deal with the paperwork.

as far as how a father/brother/friend should feel, if they new about the problem & didn't turn him in, they should feel just as guilty as anyone. thats called enabling.

I have to side with Jim on this one. Although there is pretty much nothing I hate more than a thief violence is not a good idea in my opinion. I think the best solution is to gather up as much evidence as you can and get the police to handle it. This is just my opinion.

He's so comfortable. Like he's coming back to visit or shopping. Like he's not doing anything wrong. I was kind of thinking he is very methodically looking and deciding what he is going to select. Like he tried to pull something and it wouldnt come off the wall so he gave up kinda like "I really dont want that that much anyways" and moved to some thing else. Like Jim said ,trophies. Any chance he's got an axe to grind with you about something? Jealous? Maybe you stole his girlfriend in high school? lol. Maybe he doent think you deserve such a nice place. I wonder why he keeps coming back to the same place? I mean no ones that stupid are they? Seems like if the guy has been stealing his whole life for profit he would hit the place hard and move on to somewhere else. Almost like he wants to get caught.

Jim

i would only shoot him if he was so drunk he was trying to reach in my pants & pee with my willie.:)

first of all, i'm not picking on jim or trying to start an argument, just good ole commentary, but c'mon, i dont think the o.p. has a problem with a drunk in his bushes, it's someone violating his personal property & stealing his items. i wouldn't have a problem with a drunk wetting on the lawn, but when he finished, if he entered my locked, secured residence, i would pop a cap in him. again, i don't know if he's drunk, hopped up on meth etc. & is he here to steal something or rape & murder my wife, me, kids?? same with the original dirtbag on page one, yeah, he's a thief, but what will he do when he drops by for a "visit" & someone is there?? is he gonna back away & leave or come at you like a tasmanian devil (or in this case, ron jeremy on viagara)? just saying, you don't know who or what you are dealing with in today's society, so i'm not gonna take the gamble.

i also noticed (again not flaming jim , but will refer to his earlier post)in the earlier comment that the perpetrator is referred to as "him","he","son", "brother", & "friend" while the real victim in the situation is called "the big defender of property" & "tough SOB" if he protects his interests. sorry, but i don't agree with that being the "right prospective".seems that, just like we see in the court systems daily, that the roles get reversed to where the criminal is the victim & vice versa.

in today's society with all the nutbags running around, the main responsibilty falls on you. i'm not saying run around willy-nilly & shoot everyone you think is in the wrong, but i wouldn't solely depend on the police to take care of you. i have been trained & have taken classes on the proper use of deadly force & in the right circumstance wouldn't hesitate to do so. one of those being my locked secured residence. you just don't know what someone is capable of attempting.
back in june, i took the dog out one night at around 2am. heard a noise & while investigating, found a kid trying to break into my neighbors vehicles. no i didn't shoot him :), it wasn't on my property. i did call 911 & let them know "someone is breaking into my neighbors car right now" & went back out. he saw me & took off at a brisk walk until he noticed i was still following him & then broke & ran. i saw enough to i.d. the kid as someone who lives on the back street. the police showed up TWO DAYS LATER, filed a report & didn't even want to talk to me since it wasn't my car broken into, even though i saw him & could probably take them to his residence. the police don't care... i will say, if i catch that kid on this end of the street again, i will have a "heart to heart" talk with him & let him know what will happen if i catch him again.

This maybe a less violent solution, you can purchase a motion detector sprayer. I found one on amazon.
Havahart 5265 Spray Away Motion Detector Sprinkler Animal Repellent
Now fill it with a solution of Mercaptans, you will have to look around for a supplier. I am sure someone can find you a supplier. Set it up near something that he will go for and stand back. If someone is sprayed with this stuff the smell will not come out for days. It works for skunks.

Has he attempted any further thievery since you started posting images in the paper?

Having watched the videos you can see the guy is an unskilled thief. That means he is taking advantage of what is easy to steal with little effort. You can use this to your advantage if he is still stopping by to take stuff.

Note that he is using your own lights at night to help him out. Many people think having security lights is a deterant when in fact in situations like yours they are only advantageous to the thief. Unless you have close neighbors up at 3:30am no one really is going to care except a law officer interested enough to stop and investigate. A better method is no motion activated lights, but rather night sensitive cameras and quality silent alarm systems setup by professionals.

These days you can have an alarm that dials your own cell or home phone to notify you of issues. Then you pop on the computer, check the live camera feed and see if it's one of mother natures creatures or your creep thief.

Now back to catching this guy. Setup a bait item or two that seem easy to steal, but which are setup to signal a silent alarm. Buy some cheap repro coke signs, they work well as bait. A simple DIP switch alarm could be set to be triggered when an item is removed. But make it a little difficult for the item to be taken, something that will require some time for him to deal with, giving you time to call the police.

Though self-action might feel justified, since you aren't being physically threatened you are walking a thin line between legal and illegal counteraction. So better to call whomever has jurisdiction for your road section, city/county/state.

Anyway... I hope the guy is caught. He's not a hardworking individual. I would say he looks like he could be a musician or work in a bar setting, and that would be one reason he hits you so early in the morning, he might be just getting off work!

I am curious if you ever got any closer to catching this creep? Did he ever come back? I'm sure I'm not the only one that keeps checking this thread....
