Hi Joe, and welcome to a great website. As far as making one Texaco sign for personal use, I don't think you'd get into trouble with the copy right police. I think when you make a bunch of signs for profit, that's when you'd hear the knock on your door.
You might try "Doc" at TAG/West. He seems to do pretty good on turning a nothing burger sign or piece of wood/metal into a great looking sign.
Here's his email drcoke@optonline.net

Yes, I did find a sign maker and they are currently in the process of making an exact replica of the old 42 inch Texaco Filling Station sign for me. Actually, they are making 2 for me.
The price is not cheap at all, but this will be a very nice, painted metal sign. They offered me several different choices, such as having the sign embossed, having a hard-heavy plastic embossed sign made (which actually looked really awesome, this was the most expensive of the choices, it was about 3/4" thick), and then the one I chose, the painted metal 42 inch double-sided sign.
Since this is the first one they made, I had to pay for all the computer programs that copied the image, the transferring of it to the sign, etc, so the 1st sign cost me $1500, and for the 2nd sign, it was $750. Not Cheap. But then again, I didnt do very much looking around.
I sent out about 6 emails, and they were the only ones to respond, so, they got my business. I guess the others had enough business already, who knows.
if you are interested in getting one made, you can either email me at joe68stpete@aol.com, or email the sign maker directly at sales@visigraphcorp.com. His name is Barry.
Thanks for all the help guys!

John,
There is currently an authentic Texaco Filling Station 42 incher listed on EBay. I emailed him and asked what it would take for him to end the auction early, and he said $1800. So, I am thinking the $700 NEW sign doesn't sound all that bad now. It will look a hell of a lot better than the original, but, I know, it would be nice to have a real one. But I am hanging mine on a pole outside my replica Texaco Station, so I wouldnt want an original one out in the elements anyways. Now, I am not positive about the prices on the new 42 inchers, I am just guessing since he was charging me $1500 for the 1st one, then $750 for the 2nd. Not sure if there is anyway to get that cost down or not. You may wanna email Barry and ask.
Good Luck!
