Can someone please write a few lines about distinguishing repros and originals...is the diameter of the opening supposed to be 7in or is it the diameter of the collared flange? Any other means of determination?

ty!

hi, Jim! thank you for responding! I saw that article yesterday as well. They way it is written it just speaks about the base not being 6in. What does that encompass? If the attached flange is 7in that is part of the base. Or does the flange or collar considered apart, and we are talking about the opening at bottom of globe only?

thnx!

here was a recent crown on ebay, for example, http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Red-Crown-G...DefaultDomain_0 ...description shows flange of 7in...making the opening at bottom smaller in the 6in area? that would make this a repro too? also, what are actual years of colors and crowns?

The one on ebay appears to be an original.

ANY crown with a 6" flanged glass base will be a repro.

MOST NON-lettered crowns will have a threaded base that accepts a 7" metal collar. There are a FEW non-lettered crowns that have a 7" flanged glass base.

ALL lettered crowns have a 7" flanged glass base.

I've been told there are some repro's with the threaded base and screw on collar but I don't recall seeing one in person.

When we talk about 6 or 7" base we're talking about the outside diameter of the flange.
