Ande Rooney's porcelain enameled advertising signs bring to life images of America from the turn of the century onward. The collection of enameled signs and magnets are authentic reproductions utilizing the same process popularized in the early 1900's. The colors are finely ground glass crystals which, when kiln fired at 1350*F, fuse to the heavy 18 gauge steel plate. quote from google..

The company that made these signs was one of his Investments. You might remember him from the TV show "60 Minutes" He would always have the 2 minute closure at the end of the show, where he gave his opinion on some controversial national topic!

well hate to break it to you guys but he is a she. Peter and Ande Rooney quit teaching in 1980. Drawing on Petes backgroud in antiques and Andes in graphic design they create fake porcelain repo advertiising signs. Ande Handles the creative end heading the art department, while Peter runs the busness end ,seller his wares through out the world. In 2009 they said they had 300 signs in their stable and adding 10 a year. Good teachers gone bad,in chase of the fast buck. Google -15 top super women of 2009 list.

They are nice people, who make a quality product and run a great business. NOT "good teachers gone bad, in chase of the fast buck". I'm guessing based on your post that you have some kind of chip against reproductions. To best of my knowledge, all their products I've seen are licensed and marked. They are not black market do it yourselfers selling junk repops at a swap meet.

I agree wit "Signs&Neons " 100%.
I have several TRAIN signs from them & the quality of their signs are great for what one pays for! They do not make anything larger than 12-inch, I believe!

LOL! Well I'll be darned! All these years I had just supposed it was the 60 minutes Andy Rooney! Hadn't entered my mind that there could be more than one! Just seemed natural that a celebrity had invested in a company that looked to be a money maker and added his name to the product! I surely stand corrected and I'll be sure to do more research in the future before I pass it on! As far as the Andy Rooney porcelains, I've seen a lot of them and I even own one. Have they ever created any problems in the collectibles industry! YES, but in a limited way and mostly amongst the uneducated. But, isn't that what we're worried about? Uneducated people being taken for a pile of cash and never coming back? Case in point--there was one of the Phillips 66 Flight Instructor on Duty signs on Ebay with a high "Buy it Now" price and I politely emailed the owner to explain that it was a $20 fantasy sign instead of the very old and rare antique that he was claiming! Talk about IRATE! I got called every name in the book because he had bought it from a reputable person that was above reproach and I was an ignorant troublemaker! I dropped the issue and I'm not aware of the ending but yes, even Andy Rooneys fantasy/reproductions cause problems! (not dated)

YES, I quess that was a late night bash in my 1st post. Should of just left that last sentence un said I guess. There was 3 in auction the other day and, and large auction started in other room, and there wasn't much interest in remaining items, fellow that worked for auction house bought them. Sure he planed on running them back through at later date, kind of left me with bad notion, stuck in my mind. I have a problem with them, real simple to make me happy just state that its copy of org. with date of 1st produce copy. Everyone I have seen had sticker on back ,real easy to remove and decieve the un educated sign buyer, but hey thank god its a free country, and everyone doesn't have to cater to my every wish.

Speaking of Andy Rooney and the show "60 Minutes", tonight is Andy's last night if anybody is interested. I've enjoyed watching that part of the show for years. Rod

no problem Lloyd - I understand repros can be problematic. I do believe most of the Rooney signs have licensing info printed on the face of the sign in porcelain. Can't swear that all do - but I recall seeing it on many. It's next to impossible to combat a crafty crook who will use acid or a hammer or both to remove the date when you do put it on their. It all comes down to education, experience and learning what you are spending your hard earned money on.
