what size hose do I need to look for that screws into the side of the pump? what is the normal hose length too?

It should be 3/4 inch--just look at the hose outlet and you will know. As far as length, do you want it to drape to the ground or hang a couple feet above the ground? In the old days, they put a hose on the pump that would best suit their needs and you should do the same. There are no rules when it comes to hose length!

or hang a couple feet above the ground? On a 996! LOL The 996 Only stands approx. 5ft. He will only need a 3ft hose. Suppose he could wrap it around the pump a few times IF it were longer!

If you are not going to attach the hose recoil clamp & cable a 6 foot 3/4" hose is perfect. If you are going to use the recoil clamp and cable I would use a 8 or 10 foot x 3/4" hose. Like the guys said you don't want the hose laying on the ground.

thanks for your input, the swap meet didn't have any gas pump hose. still on the look out and now know what I need.
