I have probably over 1500 pieces of Gas Pump sales literature and not one of them states that the globe will be supplied with the pump. If the company had globes, they were listed as an accessory, and could be ordered. The only company that I can remember that showed a globe in one of their brochures and offered it for sale was Bowser. It was an all metal globe with holes in it.
Personally, I believe that most of the globes you see on pumps in sales brochures, were used by the pump companies only, if they were ever real. Remember, 99.9% of the pictures in my books were taken from original factory brochures, and all the pumps were drawn by artists who worked or were under contract of the pump companies.
I have over 100 photos from the Bennett Pump Co. that are of the original drawings, and I also have a number of the original drawing that were prepared for use in the brochures, they just drew a globe on top of the pump.

Pumps were sold two different ways, directly by the pump company and second, by service station equipment warehouses. If Sinclair purchased 100 Bennett pumps, Bennett did not supply the globes, they were purchaed by Sinclair probably from Cincinnati Advertising.
The pump that were inventory in the equipment warehouses were just that, red pump in crates, waiting for the mom & pop station to order a pump. Again, no globe, because, who knew what oil company the station was going to purchase their gasoline from, and that oil company usually supplied the station with the globe.

I have read in original brochures that a globe would be supplied for an extra $10 charge.

37 hits, but no one is running with it. The plot thickens with Mr. Sims and Mr. Bennett's input. Perhaps there never was a Guaranteed Measure globe produced by same company? Was the one depicted in company literature merely an illustrator's drawing? What about the chimney top globe and punched tin globe? Was the latter a "fabrication" of some small company that merely produced some lenses(probably cheaply) to use in a metal frame? What do you "know" or believe? Please share it with us here? Thanks, Dave

Just took a good look at the pictures posted by petropumps. The globe says "Guaranteed."
The company we are talking about is "Guarantee."

I thought this same thing when I got that globe, but every single original ad I've seen for Guarantee pumps picture the "Guaranteed" globe. I believe they were available from the pump manufacturer myself, but couldn't say that for sure.

someone mentioned these cost about $10.00 and 1917 was the date used in this article. Based on that I went to a "Time Value" of money and that $10 globe would cost $168.50 in 2010. Ok, I will buy an origianl for $168.50...LOL

Bear in mind also Alex that a New Mae West/Wayne/etc visible sold for approx. $150.00-200.00 + freight. Pump companies also for a small extra charge would paint the pump any color to suit the customers.

Hello,
This thing is coming together with everyone's input...realizing of course that you can't please everyone. Glass or tin ? "Creative liberty" or historical accuracy? I suggest we continue to brainstorm this thing while at the same time try to find the individual that reproduced them years ago(10 according to Greg Flatt). Think of it like an Easter Egg hunt.
Keep turning over those stones...and thanks to all! We are making progress.
Dave

You got me there...while I have your attention...can you identify this item? I found it cemented in a pump island this afternoon in an old store ruin. I think that it is the base to a Wayne 515 or 615? Is it worth busting out and paying the owner $20.00?

KW is learning/remembering, yes 615/619.
What's to bust out? Snap the bolts off & go.
