Anyone know if there is a way to get the lid off a filpruf gargoyle oil bottle? I finally found/bought one and would like to clean the bottle out, it is very cruddy inside.

DON'T EVEN TRY TO TAKE THE SPOUT OFF, UN-LESS YOU WANT TO DISPLAY ONLY THE SPOUT.

I have sprayed carburater cleaner in the little hole on the side bracket [where the oil was forced in originaly]. It may take several cleanings to get rid of all residue.

The only way the FILPRUF bottles could be filled was by a special adapter at the MOBIL bulk plant,I guess you could use one to fill the bottle with a cleaner. They sell from $75 to $250 on ebay, auctions or shows.
Somebody should reproduce one for sale they will fit on a lubester,Rex.

DON'T TRY TO REMOVE THE TOP - they are permantely attached. Dick has the right idea. The trick is to get your cleaning solution inside the bottle. I have never owned one of these - but I keep watch on e-bay so someday, I'll have at least one.

The Mobile company furnished the jobber/station owner with a special attachment that replaced the normal spout on the lubester. You inserted the new attachment's 'tongue' into the rectangular hole in the back of the bottle's spout and that released the spring-loaded trap door and allowed the operator to fill the bottle. Hence the name 'Fil-pruf'. This stopped unscrupulous non-Mobile station owners from putting cheap oil in the bottles.

Later . . .
