A friend of mine has a Dayton 600 visible but it is shorter than a normal Dayton 600 by about 19 inches. On a regular 600 the skins are 64 1/2 inches long. His skins are missing but they only measure 45 1/2 inches long. Also the handle seems to be mounted high on the pump. There are no signs of the pump being altered or the legs cut down after it left the factory. So has anyone seen a short Dayton 600 like this before?

This pump is still in use on the farm in an old building and has been in the family for decades. I think I saw another of these at one time. Maybe the factory did make some for lower canopies or overhangs?

I think it is very possible it could have been factory made...but not a regular production item offered by the company. I worked for a rather large window manufacturer up until a few years ago mad This company had their catalog of products....but to cater to the whims of the major customers or to win over a new prospective customer they would make nearly anything they asked for. To keep accounts they would custom make at a loss some exotic items. I cannot see why this could not have happened in the pump manufacturing industry back in the day also.

Another possibility is it could have been customized by a buyer for a paticuliar station application. Would not be that costly or difficult to do by a local metalworking shop.

These are my thoughts on some definite possibilties, but no way to know what this pump has been through in in its 80 year life.

I have a letter from TOKHEIM [1992] stating to an inquirer that is was not un-heard of for TOKHEIM to custom make a pump cabinet to a customers requirements.
The inquirer was asking about a Clockface Model 38 TOKHEIM, responder could find nothing printed in his search, but did state that it was a Commercial use predecessor to the Model 39.
