A while back there was a discussion of the Texaco diesel wide spray pump plate. There is one on ebay right now. No reserve. This is not mine nor do I know the owner. Thought you would like to know. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Texaco-Diesel-Ch...1#ht_4008wt_932

I will say $2500. That may be conservative. This is a real nice specimen, but it is a slow economy and Christmas is coming.....

Since I'm not a Texaco guy per se, is the story true about the design being changed due to anti-Japanese sentiment during WW2? Hopefully someone knowledgeable in Texaco items could validate this for me, I'm curious. Thank you, Darin

Darin,
That's what I have always heard too. The sign does look like a Japanese "rising sun flag".

That is the story I have always heard as well. I also heard that they did a marketing study back in the day and, allegedly, Texaco changed the "T" from black trimmed to white because the group found it more appealing. Don't know if either of those stories are true or an urban myth. I had the phone number to the guy who was a historian for Texaco. Will have to see if I can find it.

Alex,
Actually they trimmed the black from the T because the white border appealed more to woman drivers than the black did.

That was what I heard as well. Appealed more to the ladies. And most of us guys have been trying to do that forever...appeal to the ladies that is....
