I have been rebuilding computers 1/2 my life. Not trying to brag but I would think it would be hard to find someone else who knows as much about the crankbacks as I do. After the dissapointing sales of the ID CD, I am wondering if I should continue on a rebuilding cd.
The question is what would one pay for for 25yrs exp. for these enigma machines? Thanks Joe

I think Jack Sim asks that same question quite frequently...

"After the disappointing sales of the ID CD, I am wondering if I should continue on a rebuilding cd." Help me... what is a ID CD? Rebuilding a CD?
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I think you should! Price them at $100 this time. First CD was a history lesson and a "How To" CD, should be worth a whole lot because of the personal time invested gaining the knowledge! I'll order one.

Joe I think you will sell a lot more of the ID cd’s after you finish your rebuilding guide. I wanted to wait and order them as a set. Right now I would not try to repair a computer even if I could tell you what it fit.
I will thank you now for the time, knowledge and experience that you put into the cd. It will be invaluable in the future for anyone trying to repair a computer.
Looking for Canadian Imperial and Canadian North Star. John Neilsen

Probably would be a labor of love over making a profit.... gotta believe it's a niche market.
If you do and it doesn't do well..just don't complain about it on here for the next 10 years is all most would ask.
Although I've never bought a computer from you, thanks for all you've done for the hobby.

Dick-- I had one totally apart once and I was able to get it all completely back together! It actually looks great just sitting there but don't try to turn it over!! LOL The thing just locks up with the shades over the numbers and its a mess! Took me a long time to back it up , to look OK. The problem is that the concept of how the thing works is outside of my grasp! If I understood that, I could probably repair one. As far as value---If I charged $10 an hour for labor and the parts were free, it would still cost 3 times as much as Joe does it for! I currently have one in his shop and another ready to go when it comes back and I'm going to have to send the one I rebuilt, to Joe for straightening out! I sure would like to understand how they work tho!! LOL

From what I know about these computers and how touchy they are I would send my computer in to get rebuilt even if I had a rebuild guide. Too much time and details involved and I have no parts for them anyway.
So I guess I would not by a rebuild CD but just send it in to have the pro do it.

I've done it, and it took a call to Joe to clear up a little mistake that was hard to interpret in the VR factory rebuilding docs. This is not something that someone will get rich doing. You got to do it for the love of the Hobby. Took me 40 hrs to complete mine. But now after doing the first one I know the pitfalls but still would think hard before doing one for someone else or even another for myself. Kevin I disagree with you on price. IMO I doubt few would bite at $100. It's getting hard to get $100 for a rare hard to find part. I think at a lower price many would buy it just to have a copy and may still never use it. I would love to purchase a copy but not for $100 as I know from experience that a sharp person can do this with a copy of the factory VR docs. Joe can offer up a lifetime of experience and possibly tricks of the trade that could help the hobby and the brave rebuilder. I would love to have any knowledge he could offer up. I know of only one other person that offers a rebuilding service for these dinosaurs and not sure if LL even still does it. This is a tough one Joe, If you’re doing it for the money I doubt you will be satisfied with the response. As others have said Jack will tell you that. Here is how mine turned out....
Good luck. Jeff

Joe, I'd be in for a $100 for a cd to help rebuild these puzzles... if that helps. How about a seminar? I need an excuse to fly down to the states and do some shopping! haha
