OK, this is where a newbie jumps in with both feet.
I know the Hood tire signs (cut-outs) are rare, but I think I may have come across one that's even a little more rare. I realize the pic isn't great, but I think it will work for ID.
I know the sign is 1939 or better, because the figure has the bow tie, instituted in 1939 by Hood.
I got the sign along with some others from a family that owned a local gas station since 1930, (now closed).
The sign is 6'4" tall, made by a sign co. in St.Louis, and wood framed back like a lot of the time.
Also notice that the figure has blue pants rather then the typical white pants in most of the other signs.
Any help would be much apprieciated.

It's hard to read, but it looks like it's dated 41 or 42.
Sorry, main info I'm looking for is: is this as rare as it seems? can't find it anywhere. Value for insurance? and any background on why they changed the trouser color and the 40's style gas station hat. Thanks.

Trouser color could be due to the fact your sign appears to be painted tin. Easier to paint blue pant's than to fire on another coat of porcelain? Regardless.......... T H A T I S O N E S W E E T S I G N ! ! ! !

Since the sign has a white background (unlike the cut-outs which have no background) they needed the pants to stand out and not blend into the background hence the blue or black color. Just a guess.

Sorry, don't get on much lately. The sign is dated 1941. It is not missing the wood frame, the frame is the original, which is behind the sign edges.
Look closely, where most have miss-ID this sign is the HAT and some jacket details. If you'll notice the HAT is a 40's chaufeur or attendent style hat, not the flat traditional hat found on 99% of the signs. Still have never seen one!
Thanks.
