A year or so ago I did a bit of research on "Rocket" as there are pumps and signs that appear in a couple photos I have of Gilmore stations, but didn't come up with much on them. In my notes, I have them being an independent gasoline company that sold a High Octane brand, an Ethyl and a Rocket 80, 90 and 100 grade gas. There may have been several companies that went by the name Rocket...??? Below is their sign that appears in the Gilmore pic...

There was a Rocket brand between Lake Geneva and Milwaukee that I've been curious about for many years. Red, yellow, and blue signage on a diamond similar to those used by DX. Pumps were painted a bright blue if I remember correctly, and I believe they went out of business in the mid-to-late '60s.
Definitely not the Rocket from the ads, however.

THERE WAS A ROCKET GAS STATION IN WAUWATOSA, WI (SUBURB OF MILWAUKEE) IN THE LATE 60's . THIS BOTTLE WAS PURCHASED THERE BY MY GRANDFATHER. IT IS A PAINTED-ON-GLASS LABEL WITH NO ADDRESS. ....... and YES it does look like it should have maple syrup in it.

I found this photo in the Wisconsin State Historical Society website, at http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/whi/fullimage.asp?id=45135Looks like the Madison Rocket Oil bulk plant was at 204 South Paterson Street in 1946. I found a 1946 Wisconsin State Journal article from 1946 later this afternoon that is a bit too small print to copy and post. Will try to transcribe.
