I am a new member and have been fascinated reading the posts by so many of you who are buying pumps every week or month. I never even see, much less get a chance to buy any old pumps - until now that is. I'm not really sure I should say I bought a pump. More like 3/4 of a pump. After searching the archives I have figured out that what I bought is a Tokheim 36B. It is missing the front and rear panels, computer, face, and front trim. I have found all of this stuff available in restoration from places I see on this forum regularly - except the computer. Also, I don't know if this was originally a clock face or [computer face?]. I am guessing that if it is a clock face that I am going to have to replace that it will be difficult and expensive to obtain, since there are fewer of them. I would just as soon have the computer face. I have to have something to hang the reproduction faces on!! I paid $50.00 for it. The top with frosted glass is perfect. Side panels OK. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Huffer,
Welcome to the nicest place on the net. Some really nice people hang around here. Please post away.

Good score on the 36b.watch out for Dick Bennet he'll try and steal your top.I can't really help on your computer but I know someone here will be able to point you in the right direction.Again congrats on the pump.

You better watch out though the pumps tend to multiply then they start asking for globes and things.I had 0 pumps a year ago & now I have 6.I didn't have anyglobes until Rex's auction in January & since then they've been like rabbits cause now theres 8 of um & more are on the way.

Welcome to oldgas.

Ed , You can find anything on this site, if you want to put a clock in it just wait and it'll show up, or someone will point out where ones at , as far as a glass top 36B for 50.00 buck , Thats like winning the Loto in my book ,even with all those pieces missing you got a great deal, the swap meet season is almost here , hit a few of the shows, ask a few of the vendors and you should be able to find a clock for that pump. what company colors will you do it in?

Ed, great score on the 36B and welcome to this wonderful hobby. If yours was a clock face then the tag should have read 36B-DP. I have one of each and they are some of my favorites. They are addictive and over the past few years I have accumulated 31 pumps. I still keep dragging them home. My latest one last week was an awesome near mint condition Gilbarco Tru-Meter clock face. Good luck with your resto. and hit some of these swap meets.

Welcome to Old Gas Ed. I dont think you did wrong on the pump at all. Or I think it is safe to say you stole it for that price. Good luck on the resto & post some pics of it.

Sounds like you have a METAL top with 4 frosted adv. glasses.
IF it was a clockface there WILL NOT be a reset handle on the side opposite the nozzle. Send me a picture, I can tell IF it was a clockface or computer.
oldegaspump@earthlink.net

gaspumpheaven.com sells a kit to make it LOOK like a clockface [without a mech. behind the faces].

IF you decide to part it out, I'm interested in the TOP.
Dick

Welcome to the site. Cann't help you with any parts for your pump, but take in the Arlington swap meet. There are usually pumps there and you'll meet some real nice gas people there. Richard

I guess I didn't do so bad after all. This is exciting! Thank you for the welcome NoChevys, Chris, George, Mike, Thunder, Gasoildude, Richard, and the rest of you that have clued me in on the value. I am determined to restore it. I failed to mention Mike that all the tags had been removed. Had to look at pictures to ID it. There is no reset handle on the side opposite the nozzle Dick,(or a hole for it) so I guess that answers that question. I'll be sending you an e-mail Thunder and will check out the lead from Chris. I wanted a pump (or two) for a small garage/shop I'm building in town here, trying to create a Texaco theme. Zero to 8 pumps in a year! 31 gas pumps! I may have to enjoy vicariously to some extent, but I dearly love the old gas station stuff for the memories that it brings back of my youth. I notice that most of the folks posting here are from the other side of the country. I don't know the extent of the hobby here in the Pacific Northwest. I am glad to hear of the swap-meet in Arlington Richard. Its even closer to me than to you. Do you know the date? I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how. Thanks again. Ed

Welcome to the site! One event that you might want to check out is the Portland Swap Meet this April 7-8-9, 2006 at the Expo. There are 4,200 vendor stalls, many of which have petroliana, such as gas pumps, lubers, signs, etc.

Petrolania in the Pacific Rim! Glad to hear that the hobby is alive and well here in my neighbor hood - Frank, Chadhaas, DJHubba, thank you so much for the welcome. I'm interested in hearing where all you have found your pumps. Thanks for the tip of the Portland Swap Meet Chad. Looks like I won't be able to make that one, but if that Monroe meet is in May, I'm going to try for that one. I hate it when work gets in the way of the important things. Frank, I get to Seattle on occasion and may just ring you up for lunch or something if it works out. I'm obliged you brought it up. I have to see the petrolania museum in Seattle sometime. I have read about it. Nochevys, I apppreciate your offer to post pictures and I will take you up on it soon. Ed

Lunch is on me! Now I just have to get down there. Do you and Frank and other Seattle area Petro-fans ever get together at any particular meet or event? Incidentally - I have heard that moderators are akin to royalty. Others say they are a gift from the deity - all seeing and all knowing. Still, others say that - well, no need to repeat everything I hear! This is a fun group and it would be great to meet you Hubba. Ed

LOL..Ed..I am by no means royalty..LOL. I am just a simple gas geek who loves this old stuff. I dont know everything and I learn everyday from this site and other collectors. I love learning about gas and oil and the related service station items. Its a passion to some obsession to others...LOL. I wasnt trying to get a free lunch my friend..just being funny. The PNW collectors do have what we call gas geek tours..one was just last weekend..shame yo umissed it. keep watching the board or email me directly for another..they usually happen twice a year and we wont have another for some months down the road..they are always an awesome time and you get to view some outstanding private collections. Richard (gatorgaspumps) even made it from walla walla this last time..it was great to meet him and some other collectors thier first time out on the tour. This is what its all about ..collector comradery at its best.
