Sometime last year Mobil was the feature company for the "Globe of the Month" topic. One of the globes pictured was an oval- shaped "Clipper" globe with a great looking airplane graphic. Can someone provide information about that globe and the company that used it? For example, was "Clipper" a brand name for automobile gasoline or aviation fuel? How did the company that marketed "Clipper" become part of the family of Mobil companies? Any general background information about the brand would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard Weir

Richard,
Clipper Oil Company sold automotive gasoline. I'm not sure of the exact tie in with Mobil, but its generally accepted that Mobil bought Clipper at some point.

Clipper used the same logo on three different types of globes. They used 15" metal bodies, the oval version that you mentioned and a 3 piece glass version.

Yipper..Pops is right..the only thing I would add is that it was a Seattle Company that had stations in the Pacific Northwest. Its a hard Company to find info on and I am here in Seattle. If anyone has more info I would love to hear and learn about it. Since I focus on Mobil and I live in Seattle, i love the Clipper stuff ..its hard to find.
