Have gotten oil cans in past where seller would put price sticker on it. I would remove it and still have the residue, just bought a Harley Davidson oil can has tape residue all through the back. Is there something that will take this off and not the paint. I do not want to take a chance, its unusual the can says gunk motorcycle cleaner.

Try Goof Off. There are different varieties. I used Goof Off 2 liquid in the spray bottle to remove tape residue off of painted walls from posters that were taped up(without removing the paint)when I was in the classroom.. I bought it at Lowes. Test it first so you do not mess up your can. Dave

I use WD-40 as my first choice and if I need something stronger then I use brake kleen. I always test it on a small area at the back of the can. I than use very fine Mother's Cut polish and then I apply a coat of high quality wax and then hand buff the can.
