We have discussed having T-shirts for Oldgas.com before, but I haven't taken any action beyond talk. There are two big issues. One is the cost and who makes them. I've gotten some suggestions on that. The other is the design of the shirt graphics.

I have seen some of the work that several talented enthusiasts here on Shop Talk have done. I think it would be appropriate to open this up as a competition for anyone to submit a shirt design to be voted on by the users here on Oldgas.com. Since I envision this as a reasonable cost item that some of you might want, there will be no million dollar prize for the most popular design. Certainly, a signature and plug for yourself would be acceptable in the design.

I'm thinking any of several graphic themes would be cool. A single gas pump, several pumps, a vintage gas station scene or what is in your imagination? The number of colors needed is an issue in the cost of making the shirts.

I'll put reduced size versions of submitted graphics on the site to get comments and, if several designs are submitted, an online vote would be set up. What do you think?
Thanks to Huskybob for the concept.

I my self like your logo, this is your website and were proud to be members of it ,I think the the attendent and ethyl pump is you ,with Primarily Petroleum at the top in blue and www.oldgas.com accross the bottom in black. so for each color you have a silk screen 4-5 colors . this is my vote. cause when I see that logo I think of this site,

with the colors in this sites logo you can put it on just about any color T- shirt,
of corse we want him just a little bigger or he'd be hard to see on an x-large. ha .

As an artist, I can come up with many ideas that would work, and I would find it fun and a challenge, but I have to agree that it should be the logo you have already established. It's a greaat one!

Hi,

We have a guy from Iowa print the Ohio Gas t-shirts. He does a great job and has nice prices. The only problem is the shipping but that is not bad. I will be getting our shirts in Monday for our show on the 3rd. They have lots of colors and look great. This year we did a Gulf station.

Oh yea, keep your logo.

Thanks!

Jim, I agree with the others. This is the Oldgas.com website with its own logo and that is what should be on the shirts. Please have some available larger then 2X...and with a pocket perhaps.

Jim, I also agree that you should use the logo that is established and associated with this site. Members wearing a shirt with your current logo would be recognized by other members immediately. We all are familiar with them. I recognize both images as oldgas.com "the attendant and pump" as well as the "Computer visible Pump" Just my $.02 cents worth.
ps.. thanks for a GREAT site.

Jim,
I had a local company make some bowling team shirts for my team(dont laugh at me). I used real nice shirts with four colors and had our names stitched in them. They were only like 17 bucks apice. I think your idea is great, and if you have some made, mark one up for me. Ryan

HERE ARE " MY" SUGGESTIONS,. FIRST, PUT THE BIG "GRAPHICS" ON THE BACK, AND A SMALL LETTERING ON FRONT. MAKE THE SHIRTS IN WHITE AND BLACK AT LEAST.. MABYE A POCKET IN FRONT ON THE T- SHIRTS?? AND YES POLO SHIRTS?? SWEAT SHIRTS?? I PREFER BLACK.. MY UNCLE DOES THIS FOR A LIVING, IF WE GET THE ART WORK DONE, I COULD SET IT UP.. HERE IS A PICTURE OF A SHIRT I JUST GOT.. [FOR IDEA PURPOSES ]

I agree, KEEP YOUR LOGO.
To keep from having too many on hand at any time, take orders [pre paid]and have them printed when you get 3 or 4 doz. or at end of month.

Jim - I too could design a bunch of cool logos /art for the shirt but I really have to agree - The logo for the site is AWESOME already and I think you should go with that. if you want to do another version down the road like "Old Gas Annual Gas Geek Barbeque and Ethyl Tower Haggling round up" you can make one for that event LOL - but the logo you have now is Killer. Just make it big on the shirt. sign me up too.

"Black t's, big graphics rear/small front, pockets, I'll take a dozen now"...........scary....:0
Mark me down with everybody else---I REALLY like the computerized visible on the home page---always have. It just says something about this sight that words can't.
FWIW, I know a guy, too, that screens shirts here in Mid-TN---his company does most of the country music swag.

Oldgas.com shirts.......WAY cool....... Almost like joinin' Hells Angels or somethin

HOW ABOUT PUTTING THE ARTWORK BIG ON THE BACK AND A SMALLER VERSION ON THE FRONT IN THE POCKET AREA OF THE SHIRT. PUT ME DOWN FOR ONE, WHATEVER YOU COME UP WITH. IT WOULD PROBABLY COST TOO MUCH, BUT BE NEAT TO HAVE SOME WAY TO PUT OUR OLDGAS USERNAME ON THE FRONT ALSO.

My vote: Use the logo from the site. Graphics on the front and back. As much color as possible. NO POCKETS. Sorry guys, logo t-shirts and pockets don't go together. Sounds kinda, kinda, well, old. Like something my grandpa would wear. lol.

put this sites logo on the front , then we that have websites can have our logos and web addresses on the back ,

I vote for the polo. White with the logo on front left. Logo should be "attendant with pump" in color plus "oldgas.com" in Black. Clean..Simple, and Immediately recognizable by all the members.

I wanna play too!

If a Polo , then this site's logo on the front and nothing on the back. If a T, then this site's logo IN PLACE OF A POCKET (please), and something on the back.

In the spirit of competition AND what this "hobbie" is all about, we should still have some submission on the back design. Think about it, what do most of us spend our time doing... either hunting the countryside, waiting at an auction, or restoring one on a workbench somewhere. How about some collage of these three scenes. But please, nothing with sheep or turkeys in it

You guys crack me up. Here I thought we could have this nice little contest with different designs while I check out different vendors. Some of you are sounding like you want those shirts tonight!
The online version of the pump man logo is too low resolution to use. I'll have to find that original graphic I used. It's here somewhere. I use a gravitational filing system. It's probably at the bottom of one of those piles that haven't been moved for a while. Hmmm.

Has anyone had any experience with CafePress as far as buying shirts or selling shirts through them? Interesting concept, if it works the way they say.

STATIONary, Envelopes, business cards would be cool, just fill in our names.. and packing tape, would really get the name out, dont laugh probably cheaper than we get it for now, just not worth buying a case cuz that would last 1 person a few years. just a thought...DoDoGaS

A former student of mine who was involved with Claymation now has his own place. He uses the shirt place to make his shirts. He thinks it is great. I could probably get him to contact you for the real skinny if you are interested.

How about an original logo of the pump and attendant on the front left of the shirt and a large old gas station design on the back? Or a larger version of the pump guy on the back and a gas station on the front? Anyone interested in coming up with a design idea like that?

I think we can have the oldgas.com logo and a cool old gas station design too. Thanks for all your enthusiasm and suggestions. The deal with the Cafe Press people is that they print the shirts on order with no hassles of how many to pre-order in what size, etc. Plus they can put the design on other things like stickers, mousepads, coffee cups, anything that will hold still except sheep.

I think ,?? the first one should be simple, inorder to git a feel on the cost, if you do a logo on the front, thats one price , then a logo on the back, thats another price ,there has tobe a drying time for the front and one for the back so now the cost has doubled. the shirts like that at the good guys costs 25.00 each, and up depending on how many color stations the shirt has to go through, I, me , would have the starter shirt with the website logo in the front ,then if all goes well with sales, then talk to the maker for other opptions and stiles of shirts , everyones saying ya ya ya ,but if you put a lot of colors and more then one logo on the first shirt and the maker comes back saying ,hey that shirts going to cost you 35.00 how manys going to back out and whos going to pay the tab, start slow and simple , work with the maker ,on more stuff after you see how many sells , my oppion.

evryones different , but logos on the back git mighty hot,

I agree use the oldgas logo! I like t-shirts and polo so i don't care. I want white because at the shows in the summer it is hot and the sun will cook me in a black tee. I like the user name on the front left with our real name and the oldgas logo on the back with an attendant next to it. I don't know if you could do each user name and not cost a fortune though. My dad had shirts made with the race car on the front with sponsors on the back? Here are the pictures.

GREAT IDEA! Save me a LARGE and one for my 2 yr.old Grandson, maybe xxx small. We'd like caps too. Any design will be great as long as it has a pump or two on it.

Hubba, You always crack me up...
Your old gas thing was a good one. I think the shirt idea with the logo small on the front, maybe on the pocket[yes i'm a grandpa too] and each persons name on the other side of the front in small script. You guys always say lets get together and meet so we can get to know each other! This way we would know the other collectors at the shows. And whats a few extra bucks to have our names and logo on front and them a gas station scene on the back. If you are going to pay 15.00 for a COOL shirt you might as well pay 25.00 and get what you want.
Count me in for 2 of the 2x tee shirts or polo shirts. What ever we come up with, I already can't wait to get mine. If you need my money up front to get started just let me know where to send it.
What a great idea ;]

Wow, count me in!
I vote for a large logo of some sort on the back and a smaller OLDGAS' on the front pocket. Prefere white T-shirt, but will go along with whatever is decided.
I would pre-pay of course, but it would be great if any of you guys could help out with shipping to Sweden?

Jim,
Keep it simple [ie: your logo front & back]. Anyone that wants to add a name or their web site can make an IRON ON made locally and added. Office Depot has the iron on paper, and almost any color printer will work.

I'm working right now on the pump & attendant logo. It started as a print ad from the 1940s, was 2 inches tall and not high resolution in the original. The end result will retain the old halftone look, but will look better.
I'll keep you posted on progess in making these available. I'm still open to submitted designs so I can offer shirts as either "logo only" and logo with a gas scene on the other side.

I know call me crazy but perhaps this could be a good way to help fund this site. Now I know Jim never asks for donations but perhaps one of the memeber here could get the shirts and flog them for 2-3 bucks over cost plus shipping and the profit could go towards paying the fee's involved with keeping this site running...

Just an idea.

Here is an idea for the actual URL (websites name) I've replaced the L in oldgas.com with two different pumps. It's just an idea. Let me know what ya think. Of course they could be modified in any way. I was just bored at work today so this was a good time killer.

Great idea! Use the Oldgas logo. Sure would look good on a nice fitted cap, and don't forget the tank tops. How about a special line of bikinis just for the ladies?
