Not really sure about authenticity, but it doesn't really look porcelain to me. Looks like paint peeling. Anybody else see that too?

IMO, fake.

No way Texaco would have made a sign without the "Reg. T.M." under the star.

I see other things that scream out, at least too me "Fake".

Thanks for the comments. I agree with doc that it looks to be painted. I guess my real question is did texaco make a sign like this or is it a fanatsy sign. I have never seen one like this before but that doesnt mean a thing, because I am a new collector. Maybe a texaco collector can shed some light on this.
Thanks again Anthony

Even the Matthews auction company describes it as "SST" = Single Sided Tin.

Most pump plates did not have trade mark in middle of sign.
Round signs yes. Not great shape but pretty rare to see one.

I have owned two of these signs, mine were tin painted and both mine were dated in the 1970's and both mine were original, quaranteed !
The one on Ebay looks porcelain to me..

So Wes, if that's the real deal, then TEXACO did have the signs made w/o the "REG T.M." under the logo.

I don't know enough about Texaco, to have any answers. But I do have some questions about the sign in question.

Texaco was using the hexagon logo for almost 2 years by 1967 and a minimum of 5-7 years by the time Wes' signs were made . So why make a "throwback" sign, that didn't fit their "new" Corporate image?

Hadn't Texaco dropped pump plates, when they did the logo change? If so, again why make a pump plate when they were using decals on their pumps?

I hope that Doug will see this thread and let us know what his experience is with this sign. If I'm not mistaken, his father's Texaco station was in business during this period of time. And as we all know between him and Erol there aren't many signs they haven't seen or owned.......

Bob sent pm last night, and I relized my comment was really un clear, two signs very much a like. If pole holding sign is straight it had trademark, if it leans two right it didn't have trademark. The whys I'm not sure. Bring on the experts.

I own one of these and if you look in the Gas Restoration book there is one of these signs in there. I am not saying this one on ebay is real or not. I just know that Texaco made this design and then never used it. Got that info form the gentleman who used to be the historian for Texaco.

Also possible that these signs like the globe lens that Pogo had were made for use in Canada, but in the states they were changing over to the Hex signs.
