I agree with Dick, I believe these signs were made for a foreign market and perhaps were never used or fielded.

I have seen some other late 60's Allen-Morrison Texaco signs with the old Texaco logo that were painted steel that defy normal Texaco sign logic before.

I don't think they were for a foreign market. Page 249 of "Guide To Gas Pump Restoration" shows the sign as Experimental. The one I have is marked A 12 63. I was told by the Texaco historian it was considered in the 60s. The fact that the one on Ebay is marked in the late 60s has me a little concerned. Perhaps Texaco was reconsidering it. But, that seems...well, I guess i am skeptical now.....or just not sure.

Or South Africa. I've seen these in photos from Cuba also. What better proof than a photo huh ?

Item 400254158750

I believe it's the real deal. Pricey if you find a nice clean one. It's painted metal as mentioned. I've seen these in two of the biggest Texaco collections out there. They also did Sky Chief, Texaco Motor Oil Checker Board signs, to mention a few more of these for the foreign market.

Doug: Thanks for some clarification to this issue.

DB: Not sure of you are being "tongue in cheek" or critical, but the gentleman who was the curator for the Texaco museum also told me they were experimental. I don't remember his mentioning a foreign market...but that conversation was several years ago.

Doug: Do you have a photo of Texaco stations from Cuba? That would be interesting.

Thanks Doug! That would explain the painted metal A-M Sky Chief Marine sign I saw (it was dated the late sixties).

You can send the pictures to me if you would like and I'll post them (my email address is in my profile).

Merry Christmas!

Take a look at the bid history. Two buyers with zero feedback were bidding at the end. The winning bidder registered for eBay on 27 Dec 11. I'm just going to leave it at that.
