I am restoring a " Wayne / Boyle Daton # 83 pump in the
" Gilmore Blue-Green " scheme. ( Light Green & Antique white ). Besides the fact that I'm having a hard time fitting the " Blue Green" Decal, and triangle paint
detail in the area below the access door, can anyone tell me what to stamp on my repo I. D. tag?
Also, can't find a new key lock that works on the access door.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

F. John

F. John:

Welcome to the site.

I can't help you with the information on your tag - but what problem are you having with the Key Lock?

Most of the lock assemblies come with different 'tangs' in a couple of lengths. You need to bend and shape one to make it work. I've never gotten one that worked 'right out of the box'.

Shoot me an e-mail if you need any further info.

Later . . .

Jim

The type of lock that you need is the ones used on a drawer on the old wooden desk. Check with an antique restorer, or cabinet shop.

Hi F John welcome to the site. I sent you an email of the pump plate and the lock. I don't have any extras unfortunatly. If you don't get the email let me know. Richard

On my 2 doors I have , one looks like there is little holes to mount the lock, one of the doors is flush on the backside. The other door the casting looks like part of the lock assembly is cast into the door, ie part of the outline of the lock it looks like. I think the furniture type lock is what they are, I have one looks like it fits but I did not mount it. Anyone got an idea what those keys look like so I know what to look for??

I can shoot you a picture of the working lock/key on my Boyle-Dayton Vizio 83 if that helps. Meanwhile, do you (or anyone else out there) know where I can buy an original handle for the same pump?

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks very much for all your help on the lock. I think I know what to look for. Let me clarify my question concerning stamping data on my repo name plate. My pump is the later version on the #83 ( hand operated ) .

After " Wayne " bought " Boyle Daton " (in 1928). As shown on page- 316 of Sim's book. You can see the earlier " Viso "
type on page - 129. My plate say's: Wayne Co./ Boyle Daton Div.

Has a place for the model # which is #83, then serial #,
then Max. Capacity. Can anyone give me a clue as to what to stamp there?

Also, my handle has a big nasty braze mark across it where it was repaired. Can't find any repos that look like it. So I'm going to use it.

Thanks again for all your help.

F. John

F John,
Capacity is 10 gallon.
I don't know of any B&D pump handles being made. Grind & fill the brazing area. Most collectors will be looking at your paint and decals/signs anyway.

All my BD stuff has the same centre casting, that is about 2 inches thick (up & down..the part that you see ) which sort of tapers off to a point on the outside edge..every one I have seen in real life in Canada looks like that.

Now I often see pics where that centre casting (part the bottom of the cylinder rests on) is sort of stepped and taller like around 4 inches...now I safe in assuming these are Wayne B-D's or are some still B-D's with that type of middle casting???

DoDoGas,
The BD's had a rounded [ convex/concave ]casting under the glass.
After WAYNE bought them out, they changed the casting to the stairstep casting.

F. John,

I'm sending you a picture of the ID for the actual pump. Nothing is required except for the serial number as is show in the rectangular box that is provided. If enough people are interested in the replroduction, I will have it made. To my knowledge no reproductions are now available.

F John,

Thought I would send you an email, but that doesn't compute. Let me know if you want to see a copy of the actual ID for the Cut 83.
