I have an Eagle oiler -- measure 2 3/4" tall and just under 2" diameter. I am wondering how old it is. The inscription reads "Eagle -- patent applied for -- made in U.S.A." I've seen some with patent dates of February 1923. Does this one preceed 1923? Is it more valuable than the 1923 oiler???? Is this a can used on military vehicles? Hope someone can help me.

Most look like a Bell w/ long skinny spout [held between index & middle finger w/ thumb against bottom to press, used for sewing machine, clocks & small appliances/motors]. Many different manufactures made hundreds of thousands.
Ones that have FORD/INDIAN/etc. Embossed, or are unique do have some value.

I did a quick search on ebay, completed auctions;
ebay completed auctions, Eagle oilers

As with gas pumps, a Patent was applied for AFTER they started Production. By the time Patent was issued [2-3 years or later] the company had already started producing a new model & applied for Another Patent!
Lots of Ideas were issued a Patent but NEVER produced or very few were.
re: Elephant Pump
W/O a Patent #, it's gonna be a hard search thru Google Patent Search to find your oiler.
