you don't think the sign is an original sign ? I know it's not from the 50's , more like the 30's...

It is 30", I believe they were only 42" in the Filling Station style. And "Wrapped in Paper" it just doesn't fly. and I may be wrong but wasn't that style base discussed on here before.

the sign's as fake as the day is long...the REG US PAT OFF is computer type: Futura Bold Condensed, I believe...and the base, as discussed before, is obviously a fake...no need to have all of that information on the base of a sign that no one would see...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The whole set-up looks like a California decorator's dream to me, nothing a true Texaco collector would be seriously interested in. Darin

I told him it was a repop.. he wrote back. "thanks for the info, I am taking the ad down and looking into it further."
I also sent him a link to this conversation.

It's too bad this same eBay seller didn't think to get Steve McQueen to autograph the Chevron Aviation sign also being sold right now. Might have made it worth $10,000 or even more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steve-McQueen-Ha...=item336e9c1456The seller seems to have a talent for writing a good story. John

you don't think the sign is an original sign ? I know it's not from the 50's , more like the 30's... Design might be early, BUT I'd bet the sign was made just a few years ago. Have no idea WHO he is or which hanger is his.

I had a hard time convincing the seller it was a REPRO before it was listed on eBay. Great guy but had a never ending story to sell it as an original.

I found two bases just like this one. Is there any chance they are real. ...if they are exactly like the one pictured, no...there's no reason to have all of that info on a base - the only reason the bases were marked was to designate them as property of the advertiser...
