I am new at gas pump restoration but I am learning fast.
Working on a Tokheim 300 project and new questions keep popping up. All the 300's that I see with sight glass have them high on either side. My pump has a cover plate on the nozzle side panel over a body that looks like it could be a sight glass thats low beside the hose retractor.Do some models have the glass down low like this? Can I remove the retainer on the cast iron body and replace the solid plate with an impeller and sight glass and put the sight glass tag where the cover plate was? Also is there a way of cleaning the aluminum I.D tags without harming the black paint? Any help on these questions would be appreciated. THANKS!

Yep. We need pictures. Tokheim 300's only have a sight glass on one side not both.

If you look on page 291 of my Gas Pump Identification book, you will see that not all 300 had a sight glass. The pictures I used when writing the book came from an original Tokheim pieces of Sales Literature. These pictures do not show a sight glass on the pumps.
As you mentioned, and I sort of remember (I have owned a number of 300s) a sight glass being near the top of the nozzle side of the pump, as shown in the picture of the 300 Twin.
You might also notice that there are five different 300s shown in my book, who knows, there might be more.

If you don't have a copy of my book, just go to my website: www.petrocollect.com
