I saw a post earlier with someone who found a beat up wayne 70 that was cut down. I have one also and was wondering if they were rare, and if the value was more/less than a regular 70? Thanks. Nate

To answer the first question , as in rare , probably not . In fact, I was told by a Tokiem plant supervisor several years ago this was a "Common " practice at the end of the 40's . What would happen in order to make a rural service station appear more modern was to cut the older , taller pumps down in order to make them look as though they were the newer models . He went on and added that , Happy Motorist was able to view the Computer face with his new Lower wider and more powerful automobile . As to placing a value on such a pump, I don't do that here . see ya on the road folks !

Thanks for the reply. I always wondered why they would cut one down and remove the add glass. The good thing about it being short is that it now fits in my basement!

The ad glasses have not been removed. Wayne 70's were available without ad glasses. I have several original Wayne 70's without ad glasses. They are not shown in the Illustrated Guide to Gas Pumps.

Dave can you tell me which book you have found it in and maybe what page. I should have that book somewhere.

I haven't found it any books, I was just stating that it's not in Jack Sim's book.
I'll see, if I can get to mine and check the tag for a model number. I have about 35 Wayne 70's and out of all them; I have 2 without the ad glasses. I was trying to find some pictures of them. But found these instead.

I don't think I would go to the trouble to cut doors.

I once owned a tall Wayne 70 with no ad glasses but sold it. In my opinion, a Wayne 70 with ad glasses is more valuable than the non ad glass model. They look to plain without ad glasses which is why I sold mine. A cut down pump is not as valuable as an ordinary pump.

Am I the only one here that thinks these look really good cut-down? I'm not saying I'd take an angle grinder to an original 70, but I wouldn't refuse a cut down version.

I agree, I think they make a very attractive display piece!
