I just purchased what looks to be an un-molested Wayne 83 visible pump. It is in good condition with the original glass and internals. The top does not have a mount for a globe. Can anyone give me an idea as to what these are worth? I already bought it so that is not an issue. I just want to get some idea as to the value before I decide what to do with it in terms of fixing it up.

Thanks,

Doc

Posting at least one picture with a value question will more likely get an answer and a more accurate answer.

Sorry, I tried to do that but I am having problems with the file size. I resized the picture to 640X480 but the file is still more than 150K. I am sure that there is an easy fix for that, but I am not a big tech type guy. I will try to get some help and post again later.

OK, I cropped the photo and got the size down. Any suggestions as to what these are worth?

Thanks

You bought it, tell us what it's worth to you.

The way that I look at it, what I paid is a sunk cost and I can't change that at this point. My interest in the market value is for two reasons. One, I have a friend who wants the pump and I want to give him a fair price. Second, if I don't sell it, I am thinking of restoring it. My history is to spend way more on a restoration than the item is worth. I would like to try to change that and it would help me to plan what I will do with the pump. If the value is low, I will probably restore it for outside display. If the value is a secret, I am OK with that and I apologize if my asking offended anyone. I am new to this forum, but I use a couple of other forums that are very similar in my car and motorcycle restorations. Each group is a little different and I respect that.

Good glass--Straight skins--$1000-$1200 (throw the nozzle away tho)

Thanks for the feedback. I actually paid $1,500 for the pump. I knew that was too much, but the seller is a friend who is experiencing some hard times and I was trying to help out. The glass is good and the skins have one dent near the pump handle. It did come with a nice nozzle, but I put a junk one on it while it is sitting outside. I can just make out the markings under the last coat of red paint and they are from Gilmore Oil. From what you folks are saying, this is obviously not a high value pump. With that in mind, I think that I will add a globe, strip and repaint the exterior, and use it as an outside display. I have a Tokheim visible, I don't know what model, and a couple of Martin and Schwartz electrics that still need restoration; so I have a lot of work to keep me busy. Thanks again for the value estimates.

If it were my pump, I'd try to remove the top red layer of paint and reveal the Gilmore. That is, assuming whats underneath is original and not an older resto paint job.

I have been thinking the same thing. The top coat of paint was brushed on but it looks like one coat. I can see yellow under the red on the top and bottom rings. The decals, or whatever they were made from, appear to be in one piece. There is a scratch on the front just at the top of what looks like a Gilmore sign. If nothing else, it would be interesting to see what's there.

I don't think you paid to much. In my neck of the woods, that pump is a good buy at $1500.00. As a clean solid visible not missing any parts with a good original cylinder is worth $1500.00-$2000.00.

Put a globe on it and a few decals and you can enjoy it immediately as an outside pump.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been watching pump prices around here since I bought this one and I am feeling better about the price. I have found three of the same model that sold for $2,500, 3,000, and $3,200 in the last month. In each case, the condition was significantly worse than my pump. I guess that my location here in California may have something to do with that. Automobilia is very popular around here. A local dealer told me that in August when folks come to town for Pebble Beach, prices really spike on this stuff. In the end, I think that I will just keep it and enjoy it. Thanks again for all of the advice.
