I have talked to people on the phone and asked specific questions! Then driven hundreds of miles to find out 'rust free' means no charge for the rust. Thank god Colorado does not have rust like that unless its been in a river bed.

This is what our antique cars look like here in Michigan, so that's why we all go down south for classic cars.

hahaha

Laughing with you, I've done it too... When I first started collecting I drove 3 hours one way to check on some old "coke signs" on an old building...a 70 year old woman told me about them in an antique store...ha, of course there was nothin there when I finally arrived...

I've learned to calm down a bit. But hey you to have move FAST in this hobby (before someone else does)

Happy hunting

I've chased a few "leads" before too, only to end up empty handed.

OK, So I bought a lemon. Let's make some Lemonade. The frame is rotten, so I'm gonna remake it. I went to the local steel shop and got some 1/8" thick 1 1/4" angle iron. The frame went to the sandblaster, because I can't stand working on a dirty, rusty and smelly piece. After blasting, I took it apart, and marked all the holes that were used, and ignored the ones that weren't.

I measured where all the holes go on the frame rails and transferred the measures to the new rails. The rails are mirror image, so I could mark both at the some time.

I finished the new frame. I decided not to use the motor mounts, because they won't be needed.

Man, you must be enthused over this pump! Most people wouldn't even attempt what you're doing because of the cost involved and the amount of time necessary to make the parts for this pump! I have to commend you for your diligence and the pride you're taking in the resurrection of a beyond dead gas pump! It should be a great feeling of accomplishment to beat the rust at its own game!
You're doing a great job and I sure hope you can find a donor pump to get the sheetmetal from. I wish I had some for you!
Good luck on finding everything that you need!
PS--I do have an old top with very minimal damage that I will donate and all you have tom pay is the shipping.

I can't tell from the first PIC if there is a site glass on the one side, I would be glad to donate one as well if you want to pick up the shipping cost. Brady

Thanks so much for the positive comments and the generous offer of the parts. I really don't want to let this pump beat me. So far I have it all covered. Believe it or not the skins are in ok shape. Not great, but with some elbow grease and determination I think
I can save 'em. The top is totaled, but I have a spare laying around. I've had it so long I can't remember where or why I bought it. The reset side skin has about a 1 sq. foot area of Swiss cheese near the top corner, but I have plans on how to fix that. Right now the skins are at the sandblaster's so I can see what I'm working with. Stay tuned for another exciting episode of Gas Pump E.R.

I went to look at a VW bus Camper one time, The ad read "Never been camped in". It was no lie, it was used to store and haul aluminum siding to job sites.

Old rusty pump $50.00

Getting out of the house on a winter day in the midwest, taking a leisurely drive on a weekend, finding something to get the adrenelin goin, having an inexpensive project to keep you busy, staying active vs. sitting in front of the tv .... priceless.

You did just fine.

I haven't forgotten about his tread, it's just that my sandblaster is super busy, and my parts are in a very long line of jobs. Also his air compressor broke down, adding to the delay.
