Did you really use helium? I thought it was all argon now. I cant imagine how shot your nerves were. I fixed a repop cast iron gilbarco face bezel and I was so scared to blow through

I do that w/ a Spot welder, Hard not to blow holes but w/ spot welding most are smaller.
This is before buffing w/ emery cloth;

IF your good at Soldering! But because Both cans had both crimps [flanges] of lids cut off, it's easier to add skin [flat can] to a another can to hold lids.

there was enough of this can left to add lids top & bottom & then re solder which needs a little more-
I'm going to try a run a couple beads of solder on
the poly to clean it up a little..

Yes you can. This was a flat skin that I wrapped around a cheap Havoline can, the biggest problem I have is that I can't get rosin core solder to stick and have to use acid core solder. and if you don't get all the acid off with baking soda or some thing like it. The "donor" can will rust, you can see some rust on the rim in the picture and that is what that is from. I need to go back and clean this one some more. but depending how the good can was cut up you can make a fix that the only way you can tell something has been done is by the weight of the can when you pick it up.

It takes LOTS of PRACTICE to solder thin steel for a very nice even seam.
