I use to have a similar size of sign but had the pegassus on it. The one I had was complete and with "Socony Vacuum Co" embossed on the base. The bas was just a bit smaller in diameter than the sign itself. I would say its 30's or 40's? Cool sign!

Very common curb sign. Two versions made stop here and ask here. Yours is in nice shape. I would say late 20's early mid 30's. Correct base would be the Mobil gargoyle base. Nice piece.

Every once in a while, you'll see that base on eBay! If you have patience, you'll easily find one. These signs usually have more damage than yours--Very nice curb sign Scott! Now lets find you a base!!

Value w/o base would be around $400+.
Value WITH base $550+ in that condition (cant tell if there is any touch up?) Like Kevin said they are usually in worse condition than the one shown here. 20's very early 30's before Socony merger.

I have the Stop Here version of this sign and am still looking for a base for it. So, it looks like we need two bases, one for Scott and one for me. smile

They also made a 30" Mobil oil curb sign in Gargoyle as well as the Pegasus . Don't think it had the extra wording Ask for or the Stop Here. These were made during the Socony-Vacuum era and sported a larger base w/mounting holes. This one has the incorrect base... (Correct for your sign!)
In your search for a base leave no stone or lawn unturned! haha I found this one at a residential auction sale at the widow of the owner of mobil station in a very small town. I bid on and won for $75 a Fram oil Filter thermometer on a pole in the back yard. Did a little post auction detective work and found this base under the grass with the thermometer attached!!! SCORE!!!
Good luck in your search!

I like curb signs and have three different versions of the Mobil ones.

Garage-A-GoGo yes you do have the wrong base on your curb sign. You should have the large base that could be bolted or secured down. These larger signs would blow over due to the larger surface area during a wind gust. The larger base is seen with the Keyhole version.

I'll attach photo's of my signs & bases.

Dave your Mobiloil rectangle sign should have the larger base also. One more thing to note, that larger base is fragile,it will break if dropped!
