Just picked this up yesterday and looks like it may be missing a top cap.Just looks like a large open hole on top.The cylinder is not open.It is sealed with another piece.Did they have a cap and did they use globes?Looks like the pics in Jacks book there was another piece shown.Was that an option?If it ever had anything it has been gone for years. Any info is appreciated.Thanks!

I have seen a somewhat domed cap on some old pictures . Now as to wither that cap is for such a Boyd Dayton , I dunno. Ed Shaver

Boyle Dayton used a cast iron domed cap to keep the rain out. Most of them were discarded in order to mount a globe on top. I may have one buried around here some place.
