ks:

I posed a similar e-mail question to Scott Anderson about a Neptune 855 I have. My nipple is located at the juncture of the side panel and the top. Scott stated: "THE THREADED FITTING HOLE IS FOR A 1/2" PIPE THAT COULD HOLD A PRICE BOX OR A NO SMOKING SIGN".

I personally doubt that it's a 'vent'. These pumps are not air-tight and a real vent would have had an attachment inside that would lead to whatever needed to be vented in the mechanism.

If you decide to go with a price box, reproduction price boxes are available from the various suppliers we all use for restoration. Original price boxes occasionally come up on auction in E-bay, so that's a place to look. The last couple I watched went for about a buck and a half ($150.00). I'm planning on making a custom 'No Smoking' sign for my pump. Hope this helps. Jim

I have one of the signs that thread into this hole. It has a square plate that reads, Sight glass must be full before and after delivery. It also has a ring on top of this that would have held a small round sign, 4 1/2" across and probably had the price of the fuel on it. It is also possible it had a no smoking sign there. It is held in with a snap ring. Mine needs the sign has any one out there got one? Thanx, Les
