i picked up a united motors service single sided neon sign stamped twice on backside B-2 B-2 the exact size is 36" X 20 3/4 all the original neon parts are with the sign porcelain insulators tube mounts etc neon is gone can is gone. i tried to do a little research but there are so many sizes and types of these signs out there and everybody restores them different does anybody have a picture of this size sign they can help me out with? originally would this size sign be a double sided or single side neon, any help or same size pics would really help, i never clean never mind restore a sign but the condition is main face chip free and iam thinking of going against all my instincts and adding updated neon can etc. just trying to get a picture of an original same size sign and info to help with the decision making process. thanks gents & Ladies.

Iam still a little confused hope you can help, thank you for the pics first off great sign. my sign only has two holes for the neon it doesnt have the holes for the outside neon ring. do you know if they made these signs with just the car outlined with neon or did one side help the other with the outside oval part of neon ??

Amistadi's book shows it with the outer neon coming out of the can itself and just doing a loop around the center of the can.
I like the loop around the outer edge for appearance.
TJ--I sent you a PM.

A few different companies made neon signs for United Motors; the most common one you see is where the outer ring neon comes out of the can and then another version it comes out of the face of the sign. As stated before single sided signs could have the car facing either way with a 6" can or it could be ordered not to hang on a wall flat but as a "flange type" sign in front of a business and the two opposing facing cars are put together with a can in the center. I have attached pictures of both versions for reference. Cool sign and if I owned it I would restore the neon. Hopes this helps.
