I just wonder if in 10-20 years if there will even be such thing as retirement. I can definitely say I wish I grew up in the 40s-50s and got to live thru the good days.

You younger guys should keep this thought in mind....."THESE are the good old days".

I'm retired and I agree with all the comments regarding doing what I want when I want.I'll even add doing nothing at all at times.LOL.

As far as the hobby goes,I really enjoy the fact that I learned years ago that I couldn't do it all so I stopped even trying to do it.Now,I can devote all the time and resources I want to the parts of the hobby I enjoy the most;the historical aspects and occasionally helping a newcomer along.

There is an awful lot of truth in that statement!

I agree now with the these are the good days statement. Back then it was much harder than it was now, and technology is a huge part of that statement. You went to work back then usually around age 12 or 13. Today probably half of people ages 15-18 haven't had a job yet. There is more money around because a lot of the families now have both parents working. People may say they have it worse than someone else, but as long as you can put food on the table an provide shelter and safety for your famiy, that's the basic needs. Back in the 40s and 50s that was the life. Now, people think a TV, Internet, game system and all of that are basic needs. Overall I think technology and people wanting to go to work has given us a comfortable life. I know I wouldn't have the money I have without technology.

I probably made a mistake while writing this somewhere because I was in a rush so dont hold me to anything I said above, I did a lot of erasing and retyping.

Retired after 34 years at tire factory,to say I miss it would be un true. It was some what forced as they closed 2 thirds of our plant.I could of stayed but I felt it was time to go. Only 55 years of age ,so I'm semi retired -right.?
Not enough time in the day now,don't know how I had time to work.

DO YOU RELIZE HOW OLD YOU WOULD BE !

They are teaching in college today ,that your career will flip from one job to ths next. Not allways in the same field,employers are forceing new employees to pay own insurance and to save as 401 is part of the deal. So in summary,you young guys need to forge your on way and not count on retirment benifits as the writing is own the wall,don't count on what you can't place in your hand.

That's what I'm saying Loyd. I think today's world is save and invest in yourself rather than investing in hope.

I"M 71, retired at 60, was told my whole working life there wouldn't be any SS when I got around to retire, but I get a check every month!
