Help--The Wardens 50th birthday is coming up in about 6 weeks and I intend to buy her a very nice diamond ring for her birthday but I'm having trouble with it. I don't mind spending the money as long as I get proper value for what I'm spending!
These big jewelry stores have a way of making me feel like I'm standing in a big car dealership! One guy is telling you about the car while another one has his hand on your wallet!
I know theres some very nice and honest jewelers out there but I don't know any and time is running out. I am going to do this, I just hate dealing with the big store that I'm going to. Someone out there in Old Gas Land must have someone they can point me to?? How about it guys, any really good connections?

I've got 2 small independant jewelers here in town that are very good and reasonable, the type who will make a piece as you watch. If interested let me know I will get his # for you.

your story reminds me of a coworker who wanted to get a diamond for his wife for their anniversary. He had the same problem as you, felt the big jewelry stores were not trustowrthy. Anyway, a friend recommends a store in NY. My friend picks up the phone and calls, tells the guy what he is looking for, etc. Gives him his address. About 5 days later I am in my office and my friend comes in and say, "Look what came in the mail." He received a plain envelope in the mail with 8 dianods in it. No insurance, no signature, no tracking...nothing. Average price per stone was $2,500. He had them appraised, picked one out and sent the rest back. And we worry about shipping a $100 sign.....
